Hi everyone, not sure uf anyone remembers me but I developed ReA in April and its still not gone :-( and the consultant doesn't know why. well I had my radio isotope scan....and the results came back showing nothing. So now I don't know what's next because I was hoping that would show something. Is this normal that the results can be negative even though I'm still in pain. What is my next step? I dont see my consultant until march as he's off on paternity :-(
I've had a ultrasound in my hand that showed nothing and my bloods are only slightly raised.

I remember you :) I'm not quite sure what is supposed to show up on this scan. What I do know is that the results of scans x-rays etc often bear little relationship to the amount of pain experienced. Your GP might be able to explain things.

I remember you and I'm afraid I cannot help. I've never had one of these scans and don't know what they are supposed to show / achieve but obviously for you it isn't been much help.

ReA is a tricky one because (as I understand it) it can go away only to be triggered again by another bug or virus. Quite how one would treat it therefore I don't know - the meds that us 'usua'l auto-immune types are ongoing thus lacking a dip-in-dip-out option but maybe that wouldn't apply. March isn't too far away so I hope you will be able to see him and I know from experience that although bloods and scans can be wonderful the pain and discomfort can be in inverse proportion. I don't usually advise research ont he net but in your case - and using only reputable sites - it may be worthwhile. DD

I think, having looked it up, that this scan would be measuring bone damage. It might be - hopefully - that they got on top of yours before it could cause any. Everything will still hurt though.

Hi Mumof3 nice to see you

Sorry the test hasn't 'proven' your pain :( If it is designed to only show damage then that ought to be good news.

I do hope that the consultant, when you see him next month, will be able to explain what it actually all means :?

    All in all very frustrating.

I hope someone else might have more info

    Love
