Hi everyone, I just thought some people may be interested in the fact that it is very easy to get a copy of your MRI. I asked at the hospital today and was given a cd with 3 MRI's, full spine, thoracic and cervical spine, cost £10.

I wanted to get it because I am thinking of trying some 'alternative treatment' and I thought it may be usful. I have found it very interesting but of course it does not mean much to me except that my spine appears to be in need of some serious 'scaffolding' in three places!

Lulu thanks for this, I had asked for a copy of letters sent to me and out of at least ten I have had 3...so I was thinking about asking for copy's of my MRIs...and my X rays .

When I went for the MRI on my lumbar spine I paid £9 for a dvd copy of it.
When I got it back, as well as the MRI images I also had all of my notes from the hospital with regards to x-rays over the years, right back from 2008.
I found out things that I had not known, such as mild degenerative changes in my neck that I didn't know about. Doctors don't always tell you everything unless it needs treatment at the time.
I have the form now to send for the dvd of my recent neck MRI and results.

Getting copies of medical notes etc is great, I found out on this site it is easier to do then I had imagined.
I also found out things no one bothered to tell me and some had outright lied.
Well done on getting your information.
Is it upsetting to see, you mention 'scaffolding' hope you are getting good treatment.
Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan‏" or back in reality totally ignore you. Is ok I have a sense of humour and a boxing glove, not defeated yet.

thanks for keeping me in a job

anyone can apply for copies of their own xrays. as mentioned the price is now set at £10 and this can be for one xray or your whole history and this includes the reports for each xray.
a data release form has to be signed before release and you can get these from the xray department.

depending on the PACS system and Dicom software on the disc heres a little trick if you have a CT scan or MRI scan. when you have the scan open click Ctrl and L key and the scan will run like a movie.

im guessing all xray departments are roughly the same so i would ring the xray department and ask for the radiology income generation office. they can post the relevant forms out to you and then you can return them with a cheque and then the disc will be posted by recorded delivery back to you. this is how my department does it anyway.

It is so :x when posts disapear here goes again.

Thanks Mr. DJ I have fond lots of ways to move the images I am going to put them on my tv. What is you job.

I don't know about the scaffolding PO but my neck feels like it has been crumbling away for years, it is very scary to look at, but that is due to a couple of accidents many years ago. My thoracic spine also has some damage my back feels like it wants to curl up like my cat! and I have a muscle in the same place that never relaxes.

I think it is good to have our records I think it is good to have our own records then we can manage our condition better , after all I am the only one at all my consulations and GPs have so little time and don't always tell us everything.

Barbara I just went into the hospital and asked at the xray dept. I watedd about 20 minutes and payed my £10.

i work on the PACS team which is a glorified name for IT and looking after all the digital xray equipment. my main job is dealing with legal requests, litigation requests from solicitors and patient requests like above. it has quadrupled in requests over the last couple of years.
many moons ago it was £10 per exam upto a maximam of £50 and i had to digitize each hard copy film onto the computer and then supply the disc's which used to take hours as some patients like me had over 800-900 xrays.
then the government decided to put a cap on the price to £10 per patient or per solicitor. this included the clerical work supplying any paper documents, my time digitizing and producing the disc, the royal mail registered post etc
no wonder all hopsitals are skint.
