Hi just wondering if anyone has OA without swelling. i was diagnosed in 2011 with it in both hands feet and knees but the strange thing is i have extreamly painful joints in all areas making it very difficult to walk but i don't seem to have any swelling has anyone else had this?
I did have swelling before but not now just pain.

    Hi Maggsy
I have OA in a few places without swelling although in the morning my hands feel as if they could pop and I can not make a tight fist (sometimes hardly even a loose fist) My left hand is quite sore at the minute, I must learn to tap the keyboard softly!
My hands feel swollen but do not look it, strange.
I have never had swelling on any joints.
Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan‏" or back in reality totally ignore you. Is ok I have a sense of humour and a boxing glove, not defeated yet.

I have OA in my ankles, knees and now my right hip. The latter is 'inflamed' (according to the GP) but currently I don't have swelling on any of those joints: when I do it's because my other arthritis is having a nip at me (that's an auto-immune one, psoriatic arthritis) and that swelling is visible. Oddly enough, despite the lack of swelling at the moment I do find that a daily anti-inflammatory helps, I certainly notice if I miss a dose. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Before my bilateral TKR, I had such bad OA in both my knees that X-rays showed there was virtually no cartilage left at all. However, I had no swelling, and amazing flexibility....just extreme pain at all times! My GP wasn't keen on my having knee replacements as he said I'd lose the flexibility - I didn't, and the pain went, which is wonderful. We're all different...

I think lack of swelling doesn't mean lack of pain :(

    Take care

I had OA in both knees with little swelling. There was some behind the right knee all the time however.

I had my right TKR 8 months ago and the swelling from that has subsided now, still OA left knee with no swelling.
