Afternoon all, just a quick question. hUbby took if first dose of meth yesterday evening. How long before he will see any side effects if indeed he does at all? First dose was 10mg.

Thanks

With luck, he won't see any at all. Meth's worked for me for about 12 years and the only 'side-effects' are an occasional (not every week) 'tired' day the day after I take it and the odd hair on my pillow. He'll be advised to be more careful with colds etc as we can take longer to shake them off. Also he should get his flu jab annually for the same reason. But, as long as he has his regular blood tests, my advice would be to forget about side effects unless something unusual happens.

As sw said is usually the day after the dose you feel a bit washed out, I try to have a quiet day after though with a toddler not easy! Early night is a good idea too.

So far as bloods showing side effects I think this is pretty individual hence the very regular testing early on. Fingers crossed he will be fine, I spent 8 years well controlled on mtx with no serious side effects though now since baby it seems to have stopped working - obv he won't have that prob!!!!!!

Have been on methotrexate (12.5mg weekly + folic acid 24 hrs later) for about 10 years. To date have experienced no side effects at all, have blood tests every 4-5 weeks.
    Has given excellent control.......... :)

I have been on Meth since I was first diagnosed 3 year ago, first on tablets and now by injection. Do you take folic acid the day after?

Always take your tablets last thing at night before you go to bed.

The side effects usually do start pretty quickly, but these will soon wear off.

Don't drink orange juice whilst on Meth.

If you feel sick, mints usually help with that for me, but also peanuts, this will help with the tiredness too.

    Good luck.

Quite a few people who find meth makes them feel nauseous, take theirs at bedtime and find this helps. I've never felt the need. I take mine always with food (breakfast) and have never felt sick with them.

As for the folic acid, it's given to help prevent any side effects but different rheumatologists prescribe it differently. Just follow the instructions you've been given.

I have only been on meth. for two and a half years starting when I was 76 following a polymyalgic onset to RA. I am on 15mg the day after folic acid. The day after meth is when I usually go for a walk up to a max, nowadays, of 10 miles. So far I have not had side effects that can be attributed to meth. Mine,if any, are attributable to age.Walking is the best exercise and I hope to keep going awhile yet.

Pot80, meth certainly appears to suit you, excellent!
Well it's 3 days since hubby took first dose and he has not had any bad effects as yet. He was told to take his folic acid the day before meth.

I bought a book on treating arthritus the diet way by Margaret Hill. Common theme about drinking cider vinegar, anyone else tried that?

Not saying that medicine is not totally required but just trying to attract it from all angles!

I’ve tried the cider vinegar, the cod liver oil, the magnets, the green lipped mussel gonads, the no meat/dairy/fruit or anything processed diet among other things.

To be fair, I think most of these things only profess to help OA anyway. Anyone that claims to ‘cure’ both OA and auto-immune stuff has to be clueless.

For my money it’s methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine every time.

Cider vinegar has long been used as it had general anti-inflamatory properties, unfortunately I don't think it is any where near potent enough for ra.
