Not to Well

Hello,
I'm sorry not to have been around for a while, I've not been to well, (kidney infection ohhhhh painful!) but at least that appears to have gone after a double course of antibiotics and lots to drink etc. I've had a blood test to check things out and all seems to be OK for the moment.

My oa has good days and bad, the worst thing is my hands - not only painful but they are looking not so good now and i am more limited in what I can do and the loss of feeling in the fingers means I'm dropping things and clumsy that its embarissing to go out and let other people see me drop my purse or money, and I dare not pick up anything in a shop to look at!

The tiredness from fibro makes me drop off to sleep when I don't want to and miss things! Talking to my GP she asked me to describe the difference between fibro fatigue and normal tiredness. I said that its just like a cloud going over you and not being able to keep your eyes open however hard you try, if you get up and fight it, sometimes I can do things but then I have to pay with several days feeling awful afterwards. It is hard to explain.
Sorry, I'm going on a bit with nothing new to say or ask. I just wanted to say I'm still here! :) My main worry at the moment is whether to carry on with my Ciitizen's advice training or give it up as it does make me so tired and effects my arthritis. My GP says it's too much for me, but I hate giving up. Love Sue xxx

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time of things, Sue. I've no helpful suggestions, I'm afraid, other than to wonder if it's just the fibro making you so exhausted or might your meds be part of the problem? Sometimes a bit of tweaking can help.

I agree it would be a real shame to stop your CAB course right now. Might it be possible to take it up again later with another group?

Hi Sue, sorry you have been so unwell, I had a kidney infection and was hospitalised in September. It took me a good while to recover, so give yourself time.

I hope you recover soon and are able to continue your course.

    Hello,
Thank you very much for your kind wishes and advice.

Barbara, I'm so glad that the injections have helped your hands so much. I hope that they can give you something permanent to help.

I think that the infection has taken more out of me than I realized, and I have tried to catch up with things and not given myself enough of a rest. I'm going to be a bit more kind to myself and just do a bit at a time. My GP ordered blood tests and they have come back OK my inflammation markers are normal so that rules out RA. I think the OA and fibro are the problem. I have a job to hold a pen now! Hope we all will feel better when the weather improves, this winter has been YUK!

As for my CAB course, I can take it at my own speed. I will make an appointment to see my tutor and talk it over with her. If I'm honest I feel a bit nervous about going back. Not working for so long has taken away a lot of my confidence! :( It's just making the first move, I think, once I get going I'm fine! Also, I've spent the last part of the week trying to sort my niece out with a phone in her room. Its a long and boring story, but cutting it short, BT seem to have lost all trace of the order!!! :x

How are you today, Sue? I think you've just given yourself the best piece of advice there. It's all to easy to underestimate how much these things can take out of us. Ease yourself back gently into 'normal life'.

The CAB thing sounds as if it can be put on hold until you feel stronger. Confidence can go quickly but that's all it is. You are still the same you. You could handle it before and you'll be able to handle it again - just not yet.

As for the pen - you can buy extra thick ones, certainly in disability shopd and sometimes in ordinary ones. Or, just pack it round with tubular bandages or somesuch.

Tony thanks for the hugs, its nice to be made a fuse of!x

As for the infection, yes I feel a bit low today, nothing serious just tired and lazy. I look at all the things that need doing and try not to worry, but I feel as if I'll never catch up with myself and this horrible fatigue clouds my thinking, which means I keep forgetting things. My husband is really caring, though and does all sorts of things for me. He's got half-term next week, so we will be able to be together, which is nice.

Hope you are keeping as well as possible. I think we need some sun and that would make us all feel better. 8) Take care of the wrists and hands, I know how painful and frustrating it is to have bad hands. Have they given you any wrist splints? I know its not good to wear them all the time, but when they feel weak, they help me if I wear them for just a short while.
    Love Sue
