Can you help?

Hello, I'm doing an AS level project in school to pass some time as I finished my History GCSE early. I chose to focus solely on 'how arthritis affects a persons physical and emotion well-being'. I've got 90 questions filled in already (30 from the person whom is sufferings opinion, 30 from close family's opinion, and 30 from their specialists opinion) I intend on comparing the results to see whether the family feels they're doing fine, yet the person suffering shows completely opposite answers, and vice versa.

I chose to do this project because I feel I don't get much attention and care from my specialist who only see's me 1 in every 4 months although I've just changed medication and can't get my disease under control.. I feel I should be checked up on more regularly. Not only this but I've requested an eye test and a x-ray along with aftercare such as occupation therapists and hydrotherapy. However they keep saying I'm going to and it takes longer and longer and longer.. and I still haven't after two whole years!

Anyway rant over, I wanted to know whether anyone was facing the same problem? Or what peoples general experience with the disease are. This is because I'm doing my presentation next week and would love some peoples stories printed out and on show to show people what we are really going through! Obviously if you wish I could leave your name out and age etc,. I think it would be good (for people who don't understand, or who have family who are suffering and just call them lazy) to pick up and see someones personal statement of how it's changed their life.

Thank you so much, it would be lovely for a little help :D

Hi Hollybee,

I'm sorry, all requests for information from our members must be sent first to the Webmanager who will decide if the survey will be allowed. That should not stop you using the site personally if you wish.

Thank you

    Hollybee,
Is it OA or RA you've got. I can only speak from the perspective of living with OA so if you think I can help please PM me. I'm classed as having chronic OA (multiple weight bearing joints and it continues to spread). If you come across any genetic research please point me in the direction of those carrying this out as I'd be interested to see if I could help with this as this disease is within three generations of my family so we know it's genetic with us - it's just proving it!
    Good luck with the study.
With regards to the appointments, if you feel you need an earlier one have you tried ringing your consultant's secretary (get his/her direct dial and name) and have a word?
    Take care

I'm sorry you feel you're not getting good quality care from your rheumatology team, HollyBee. I think one thing arthritis teaches us is patience

It sounds an interesting project but I'm afraid you're not allowed to make a study of people on here without getting Arthritis Care's permission.

If your study is due in next week I doubt that leaves you with enough time. However, if you ask immediately you never know.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi Hollybee

All the postings on the Living with Arthritis forum are about people's experiences of the many types of arthritis diseases and their experiences with family, gps, hospitals, aftercare and so on that you will be able to find plenty of information for your presentation without even having started your thread on here.

It will take your time to look through the messages but I am sure you will find it most interesting.

I wish you well with your presentation.

The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.
