Pain CLinic and diagnosis

Hi all,
Had an appointment at the pain clinic this afternoon, very very good specialist who was really friendly and who seemed to ask the right questions.
I had a TKR 8 months ago and still suffer and struggle.
I was diagnosed Myofascial Pain Disorder. Look it up, it is interesting.
He told me that 10% of TKR patients suffer similarly, "Fact".
I was made aware of the recognised treatments from Physiotherapy to Acupuncture but no guarantees of success.
To cut to the chase I have accepted physiotherapy and a cream based on chilli peppers that provides heat to the leg which gets inside the nerves.
This is a four times daily application for three months, then further appointment to see how it goes.
He told me that naproxin only works for about ten days than does nothing so I will take that on a bi weekly basis. I didn't know it was pain relief anyway.
I am to continue with my Tramadol and Paracetamol.
I hope this helps somebody.

Hi
Sounds like you had as good an appointment at a pain clinic as I have had.
I'm having acupuncture at the moment, then TENS, management classes.
I'm waiting for a call from a clinical psychologist to decide what else might help me. I've had a THR and have OA in loads of other places plus a couple of different spinal problems
I'll keep watching this post to see how your appointment goes
Love

It's always interesting to read what happens at these appointments. Thanks, Blueknees.
I confess I'm a bit surprised about the naproxyn though. It helped me for years. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

sticky everyone has differing opinions about medication and its really up to you who or what you believe.
I know the naproxin did not work for my pain but it appeared to drastically reduce the swelling.
I will stop taking it for a week or so and start again.
I do know sometimes it is in our head whether stuff works or not, everyone to their own0
