Hi all.

My wife and I have just cOmpletee the second day of our adoption training. Blimey it's an emotional roller coaster and I feel wrung out!!!

In spite of talking with the medical officer I'm concerned my disability will stop me from adopting. Syringomyelia and RA. I know they can't just say no because i'm disabled but might they say no because of lack of capacity or something similar.

Has anyone here adopted???

Thanks

What a lovely thing to do Sparky

I do hope you will both be successful.

I don't kow whether your disability will be held against you, but if your OH is healthy maybe not???? I am thinking that single people can adopt these days you see.

    Best of luck

    Love

Good luck with the adoption hun....fingers crossed that everything goes ok for you and your husband. As frogmorton says what a lovely thing to do. I have my granddaughter a couple of times a week and it perks me up no end, don't know if I could do it full time now though, she does wear me out some days  .

    Take care Dee x

Sparky, I really admire you and your wife. What a wonderful thing. And if they did refuse you(and I say did) they would be idiots. You both obviously have so much love there.

I dont know about adoption, only that I have a brother who my parents adopted when i was about 5. And we were a very close family. So, keep going, it's all worth it.

I don't see why your illnesses should be a problem but I do know the adoption process can be gruelling. My son and daughter-in-law adopted a 5 yr old nearly 2 years ago.

Purely a guess but I'd imagine how you deal with your problems will be of more interest to them than the fact that you have them.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. I think you may be right about how we manage in regard to my disability. This is something we all want and I'd be devastated if my disability got in the way of this.

    Thanks again.
