Another DLA question, seems to be very in vogue today!

Hello everyone.
I am thinking of applying for DLA as I need a car for work but had to learn in an automatic as I could not use my left leg for pedals due to too much pain. I can drive an auto fine.
I recently was told I have muscle wastage on my left leg and the pain is getting worse as are the movements-getting into very bad habits when walking-I am attending physio so will ask him for exercises to sort that out, maybe also a walking stick if it helps to balance me up a bit.

Work really must not know I am having problems-that would be the end of my job-I am a zero hour no contract employee.

Do DLA approach work or would I be ok to apply, really stuck, no car means no job, up untill now I have been in one job but they want me to switch jobs which needs a car - just for short driving but it is needed, but without a little extra money I really can not afford a car.

I am hoping the DLA will give enough to put towards car payments.

Do we have to say on car insurance we have OA?

I suppose if I get DLA that would be yes?

Also very recently I feel the crease in the back of both knees are really painful which is new, is that just the way OA in the knees goes or everyone different?
Best joke I ever read, "With that information and a diagnosis of spondylosis, your doctor can develop a treatment plan‏" or back in reality totally ignore you. Is ok I have a sense of humour and a boxing glove, not defeated yet.

Hi PowerOn, I think that DLA people would look into the type of job you have but not directly contact them. But don’t hold me on that as I'm not 100% sure. As for the car situation the amount of money you get from DLA depends on what rate you're awarded, if you get the higher rate care and mobility then you will be able to get a car for free from Motability people. If you're lucky enough to get the car then the insurance, tax etc is also free so there is no cost to you.

It might also be possible to get other discounts/help for mobility on the medium and lower rate but I'm not really sure about that, hopefully others will come along and be able to advise you on that.

    Hello As5567
    Thank you for your reply.
Benefits are so awkard but we are so lucky we live in a Country where we can at least try to get them.
I hate asking as everyone seems to think if you want benefit you must be a waste of space.
I just want to stay in a job.
I will have to come back tomorrow as I am not used to being awake this late, or early?

Don't worry about what others think, benefits are there for people like us who need them, dla is a benefit for both working and non working people. It is more difficult to claim than it was and looks like it will be even harder soon so I suggest you get your application in ASAP if you think its right for you. Its a shame that there are cheats out there who make the system hard for genuine people, seems to be a lot of people on Here who have been turned down which is very worrying.

sorry if I have any odd typos I'm on my phone and unable to sleep so i hope this comes out correct lol

DLA has nothing to do with work and should not have any cause to contact them.. they may contact your GP/specialist, but that's all and you have to supply their telephone numbers and addresses.

    Good luck

Hi to both Poweron and Sugar46. The only way to find out if you're entitled is to apply - we're not benefits experts and cannot judge if you qualify or not. The range of cars available if you receive the higher mobility rate is very wide and you can 'lose' up to 100% of the benefit in 'payimg' for the car but it does mean hassle-and-worry-free motoring, which if you do a lot of driving is worth its weight in gold.
