I've now had RA for 12 years, I'm 42. Apart from a brief spell on Sulphasalazine before and after Christmas, (it gave me a chronic upset stomachs where I had to stop working) and hydroxychlorine the only medical management I have had has been naproxen and predisilone. This has been due to fertility issues and not wanting to harm my chances of being a Dad. I've had many flails and am in the midst of one now, it's sooooo painful and stops me taking part in life, or sleeping. when not in flair I can function pretty well day-to-day. Walking is always an issue, but then I have a neuro condition too and was told I wouldn't walk again an I can manage a few paces now :-)

Today I had the asesment for humira and have the necessary forms to do before starting it. I'll be taking it fortnightly. Part of me is terrified that I won't know what to do. It seems like a huge comitment. Will I notice if I get and infection? I may need to take daily tempo retires as due to the Nero condition Incan't tell if I get hot or cold. I'm also really excited!!!! The idea of a new lease of life is soooo seductive. We've been struggling financially as I'm self employed and to be able to work more is soooo exciting.then the fear kicks in again what if nothing happens......

I suppose ai'm going to have to suck it and see. My RA Nurse specialist is amazing so hopefully with her support I'll be ok.

I've not taken humira as I get by on meth but plenty on here do take it and I'm sure you'll be no less competent than they are :) You'll be well-monitored with blood tests while you are on it so any potential problems will be picked up early. I hope it works well for you.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I'm on humira and once you are over the first hurdles of getting used to it you will come to terms with the rest of it. OK, you may need to take a daily temp for a while but that's no bad thing if it helps to reassure you. I know that if I have feel more 'under the weather' than usual I ned to be alert. If I have a sore throat I need to skip a dose (the meth too) and that if it continues I have to go the GP. Then if it's anti-bios I miss further doses until the bug is gone. Simples.

Others on here have had great results with humira (so good they rarely post) and I hope you're in that group, I really do - it will be good to 'lose' you for that reason! DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Thanks for your encouragement DD. I can imagine being here for some years ahead. It seems like a great community where people can help and be helped. I've got a long way to go before I find the equilibrium I want and I think I can be really helped by you kind people on this forum.

    Thanks
