It's been mentioned and they've explained that it will need to be done under X-ray.

I've had over 10 injections in various joints but never my jaw and curious of anyone else's experiences and if it helped?

Currently my jaw opens less then 3cm and I'm finding it near impossible to eat! So I will probably go ahead with it.

Thanks

I am sorry to read your posting.

If you go to the Search Button at the top of the page and type in Jaw Pain you will find quite a few postings with these words in the text, some will not be relevant but you can quickly pass over them.

This is one posting that I found amongst them when just having a really quick look for you:

"Hi I have severe tmj and osteoarthritis in my jaw joint, i have had 2 injections into the joint, it doesnt hurt as the give you a local anesthetic into the joint first. I would say after a couple of hours it does get sore but its only for a couple of days.

Unfortunetly it didnt work for me, i only got a few days relief. I have also had 2 arthrocentisis aswell to no avail. I think it depends on how bad your jaw is and only the ct or mri will show the full extent.

My jaw is far to gone for anything other than full jaw replacement, as the whole cartlidge/joint has completely crumbled away so i have bone to bone when i open my mouth.

Certainly give the injection a try anything that gives a bit of pain relief and movement is helpful

Dont be afraid try and relax as much as possible take care

    Catx"

    Hello Sezeelson,

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with your jaw. My jaw has been completely destroyed by RA, although it's not affecting my eating, and I saw a wonderful max fax surgeon. He said steroid joints tend to be very helpful in relieving symptoms. Also has a joint 'wash out' procedure been mentioned to you? I decided against both but I have a friend who also has severe joint RA and said the steroid into the jaw and the wash out procedure made a huge amount of difference in how much she can open her mouth.

All the best and if you have any other questions, I'm happy to ask her.
