    Hi Maria
Sorry I cant help, apart from resting in a dark room, but constable posted today that her daughter is suffering from them...not sure if she has anything for it, but they are doing a scan to make sure there is nothing else wrong.

I don't know what helps but I do know some foods can trigger migraines. It varies from person to person but cheese, chocolate, caffeine and alcohol are some of the usual suspects.

I have a med prescribed by my GP which works like magic with migraines. Thank goodness I rarely get them now but always have the med with me in case.

I used to suffer with them horribly and this pill sorted it out for me. The idea is to take this med as soon as one starts with a headache.

My heart goes out to him. Migraines can be truly debilitating. My mum told me when I was young and in bed fro Friday evening and all weekend with a migraine I used to say I wish I was dead. It was that bad for me.

Could I ask what your doctor prescribed?
I'm thinking of taking him to docs in morning
    Thank you

    Hi Maria

I was not prescribed anything when I was your son's age but I now always have Naratriptan 2.5mg tabs with me.As I say my migraines seemed to have stopped, for which I am most grateful, I just have other things to contend with now.  I am instructed to take one tablet as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine. They do make one feel drowsy but when one has a migraine the best thing is sleep and for me the migraine soon disappears.

I have learnt recently that Amitriptyline can also be prescribed for migraines but I have never been given that personally.

I do hope that the GP can help your son with his migraines because they really can be very debilitating.

    Hi there.....

I'm not medically trained to " give advice " but.....
My gp said... (for an adult) the guidelines are....

At first signs of migraine take 3 x 300mg aspirin and 2 x 500mg paracetamol..

Obviously don't take either if you have any allergy to these...
But this seems to be the latest advice - which for me seems to work....

    Good luck xx

Forum members are reminded, as has been stated in the post above, that forum users are not medically trained and cannot give anything more than their own personal experiences.

It is always advisable to consult a medical professional with regard to any new condition, or when contemplating taking new medication.

Whilst a particular medication can be prescribed for an individual by their own GP, other GPs might have very different ideas, and a personal consultation with a GP or pharmacist is best in such situations.

My stepson suffers, we give him paracetamol and a pint of water to drink as he gets dehydrated, that works for him
