I decided it would be nice to join an AC support group to get a bit more of an understanding and as I had one that was within a 2 min walk I thought it would be ideal.I decided to ring the lady who runs it,she seemed quite friendly and stated that I seemed quite young, which I told her I was 41 and she said she thought I would benefit from a different one with younger people and gave me another group which means me travelling to the other side of town which requires 2 buses as I don't drive.I felt quite put out now even though she stated that if I still decided I would like to attend I would be welcome,it has totally put me off now as even if I did travel to the other one it is between 7-9pm which would mean I would not get home till around 10.30.I guess I will have to see what else I can do I thought it would also be a good way of getting out more too.

Im sure you could go to the older one if you wanted, theres no harm in trying it.
I went to an illness type group thats run by a charity, and it was all mainly older women that went, and so i didnt find it helpful as i found they went on and on having rants, and noone else could get a word in, and they didnt address any of the issues that concerned me, they thought the health service was amazing for people with our illness-which it was far from but maybe they get treated better than young people. anyway it wasnt that great.
but always worth a try. you could try both and see. seretary type people are always evil bodyguards and doesnt mean everyone will be like that.
p.s your not that young, im 28 :?

I will have a think about what to do as not sure now as I seem put of about that one now and it's not even cause they are older as that wouldn't bother me as I worked in care for few years caring for the elderly and loved chatting to them.

    Hi Shandy4greenday

You know I don't think the woman meant anything by mentioning the younger group, she probably thought you would find people more you may or may not have a common ground with...I totally get why if you don't drive you are not keen on the later one for that reason but am puzzled as to why you are so put out by the suggestion of the younger group...
It would be a good way of getting out so why not just go to the one nearer you, sound it out and if you don't fancy it try the younger one, nothing to lose have you?

I agree with Elaine. The woman probably thought she was saving you from a fruitless journey as I've heard one or two people on here complain that they were the only young person in the group and didn't want to go again. For my money, why not suck it and see.

    Hi Shandy :)

First of all, good for you for picking up the phone to enquire more about the AC support group that is so close by to you. I am sure the lady you spoke with was only being as helpful as possible, all with the very best of intentions even if it may not have seemed like it to you for whatever reason.

Like others have said, please do go along and see for yourself, and this could be an opening for selling your cupcakes! :)

You can always try the other group too if you feel up to the travelling. I think you are doing great, getting back into baking mode and wanting to attend a support group. Give yourself a gentle pat on the back from me :)

Thankyou I have given some thought and thought I may try both and see how they both go I think it could like you say be that opportunity to at least get started on selling my cakes I can cater for all dietry needs so that wouldn't be a problem either.I have just finished baking jaffa cakes and turkish delight so looks like I will have to hide them from the kids before they get home as my football friends wanted some which I normally do for free but I think a donation will be in order now :D
