    I do and I don't!

I have been prescribed cocodamol for pain and etoricoxib (NSAID) Naproxen is a NSAID too. So a similar combination. My gp did mumble something about me taking naproxen instead of etoricoxib but did not actually do anything about it.

I'm on Naproxen and have co-codamol but try to avoid co-codamol as 1 was never enough and 2 was too much but now I'm on methotrexate I avoid them all together mainly because I'm unsure if they safe to take with all the rest of my medication on top.

    Hi,

I have been taking both of them together since september. Also my doctors know i take them together aswell as my sulphasalazine and they are happy with me taking all of them.

If you are unsure maybe call your rheumy nurse and they can advise what to do for the best.

    Anyone else taking this combination?

I am wondering why you are asking this question. Would you like to enlighten us and perhaps we may be able to help more.

I was prescribed co-codamol and naproxen. They are two different types of pain killers, and I was able to decide for myself which type was going to be effective for the type of pain I had. The combination could be considered a stronger version of a paracetamol/ibuprofen combo. Co-codamol is an analgesic pain killer and works quite quickly against pain caused by stiffness, injury, etc, and naproxen is an anti-inflammatory and works quite slowly (but lasts longer) against pain caused by inflammation. Both together are useful in arthritis because the pain it causes falls into both camps and where one drug won't help much on its own, both together give a lot of relief.

The anti-inflammatory drugs (eg naproxen, diclofenac, ibuprofen etc) are all quite hard on the stomach so should be taken with food, and doctors will sometimes prescribe something to give the stomach extra protection (names of drugs escape me at the moment).

I find naproxen tends to upset my stomach quite a bit, and co-codamol has a tendency to constipate, so as I said I can generally tell which drug is going to help the most - ie I only take naproxen when I think I need it, and I find I get the benefit from it the day after taking it! But then I've had my TKR now so don't have any where near as much pain!

I take co-codamol and also ibuperfen. But the later I try not to take as my husband when in hospital was told what they can do to you're stomach. I find co-codamol I have to take 2, 1 is just not enough.

I took both for about two years, I've never had the spaced feeling and that is more likely due to the co-cos, they are opoid-based and that can affect some. How many cocos do you take per day? DD

I have never had a problem in taking the co-codamol. I always take two. Everyone has difference tolerancies to medicines.

    Hi Unsure,

Sorry to be a nuisance here, but please don't put your co-co's in the bin. Take them back to a pharmacy, they'll happily dispose of them for you,
