So much pain

I have been getting a lot of stiffness in my fingers lately after about an hour of getting up in the mornings and pain in my hands rather than when I first get up and it will normally last all day long till bed so I have been trying to keep them active to stop them being so stiff, well today I have been in agony with my wrists, mainly my left rather than my right which is what I normally get,I have been using Cura-Heat wrist packs and wrist wrap today but it only lasts 8 hours and don't seem to have helped anyway.I forgot to ask the doctor if it was ok to take Co-Codamol with all my meds as that is all I have apart from paracetamol.I'm on Methotrexate,Folic Acid,Naproxen,Lansoprazole and Adcal does anyone know if it is safe to use with all these meds, what I could take or if anyone has any other suggestions please as it just has no plans on leaving pretty soon and I have been like it all day and now really need a break from it Thank-You Sharon x

I'm sorry stuff's playing up. Sometimes, with wrists, it helps to immobilise them . Just a crepe bandage might help or improvising a sling from a scarf.
We really can't advise on meds. I've taken meth, FA, lansop and cocos but without the others. The one thing I know you must be careful about is mixing paracetamol and cocos as cocos contain paracetamol. If it's very bad you could ring NHS Direct. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Sorry you're in such pain. I wonder if you've perhaps overdone things. There's a fine line between activity to avoid stiffness, and doing too much and causing more pain. Do you have a wrist support you can use? They can be quite helpful.
Of course, only your own doctor or your pharmacist can advise which combination of meds you can safely take. In the past, I have taken the same combination as you, apart from the naproxen. I took another NSAID.
The only thing I can say with certainty is to be very careful if you take paracetamol AND co-codamol. You do not want to overdose on paracetamol, so bear in mind co-codamol contains paracetamol. You probably already know this, but just in case
Check with a pharmacist if you're not sure.

Thank you this is why I wouldn't take them unless I was sure I do have a tens machine I've just put on but don't like to use it for my hands as feels uncomfortable I tend to use it only for my leg, back and shoulders mainly as it don't feel quite so bad,I guess I have got a bit desperate. The problem I have is from running a family of 6 pretty much by myself all my life and just getting on with it and being on the go all day everyday and still do pretty much that now,my 17 year old daughter is great she helps me when she can, when she is not at college so it's realizing when I have done enough as sometimes I feel fine but then it's not until later I realized I have done too much,I suppose this is something I need to learn pretty quick so I know where to draw the line.0

Welcome to the world of pacing Shandy! It is very difficult when you have been used to just getting on with things to accept that that is no longer possible, but it's all part of coming to terms with the condition. It ain't easy, but bear in mind that if you overdo things you won't be of much use to either your family or yourself. It might be a good opportunity to look at what you do for the family that perhaps they could and should be doing for themselves?0 -
I had a bad nite and am now waiting on a call back from NHS Direct as this pain is too much now0

I only had my Tens which didn't seem to help greatly but I wouldn't take anything else cause wasn't sure what I could be take. The doc rang back and have been told Co-Codamol is fine I normally used to take only 1 before as 2 used to make me feel weird but the doc has advised on 2 which has now made me feel very lightheaded and drunk but that is much better than the pain.Well they seem to have taken the edge off it a bit now and I will call my doc in the morning if have any more problems but at least I have some relief finally now.0

That's good. If yours is one of the higher strengths of cocos you could always ask your GP to prescribe a lower dose.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Glad to hear the edge has been taken off now Shandy, hope it lasts a while. You probably feel better for having got some measure of control, but now you need to make the most of it and rest rather than try and be busy - being in severe pain takes a lot of energy.0

Cocos (if they suit one) are pretty good dullers, I average around four per day and they are of the 30/500 strength. I began with the 8/500 but now they don't dull anything. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Mine is 30/500 and I only use them as a last resort as hate taking pills even more so now as I take so many of them but if they help it's best too.I have been resting all day today my daughter has been great done loads today and she just put some dinner on for me she only 17 but sometimes I don't know what I would do without her.At least there is no skool runs for today so I have had the chance to rest Thank You all xx0
