Hi
I have had problems with "straight" OA in many joints for some years, the pairing up of joints i.e. both shoulders etc, makes me suspicious of RA.
My right knee has currently swollen up and become very stiff and painfull, the pain has spread down my shin into my ankle which has also swelled.
My GP recommened I see an Orthopedic Surgeon, which I did. He took Xrays of my Knee and asperated a sample of the fluid for analysis. His opinion is that I have CPPD which is a form of arthritis where Calcium Phosphate crystals are deposited in the joints and are subsequently attacked by the immune system, ( I could clearly see erosion of the catliage in the Xray).
I am now on Morphine for the pain.
Has anyone else had any experience of CPPD or any advise they could give me.
Many thanks
Paul

I hope someone will be along soon who can help, Paul. Mine's RA and this is all new to me. Is there anything in the AC 'Publications & Resources' at the top of the page?If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

hi Paul.
I've got cppd. Or condrocalcinosis.
in both knees. I've also got oa and what was sero negative inflammatory arthritis until my last blood showed positive rheumatoid factor.
I've had trouble with the knees for thirty years now. have them cleaned out every couple of years but it's getting to the stage that they need replacing.
I'm on a real cocktail of drugs but I suffer with other joints too. wish I could be more helpful mate.

HI Paul
Not much use here, but I did want to welcome you to our forums and hope you find them as supportive as I have.
I have no expeience but had read about CPPD in the past when trying to see what was wrong with me
What I can say is that all forms of arthritis share common features, pain stiffness etc so you will find much in common with most of us on here at any rate
Love
