Been reading my letter for the medical and the place the medical is held at is on 2nd floor and no parking near!
Would I be able to request a home medical instead?

I'd ask - no harm in asking. What type of medical is it though? If this isn't possible, tell them you need lift access to the room. Can someone drop you off and park the car?
Methinks you've got some homework to do here ...

    Take care,

Like Grace I'm not sure but ask, I would think they would have lift access in the building and aslo ask about patient transport if you have no one to drop you offand pick you up..................Marie x
Smile a while and while you smile
smile another smile and soon there
will be miles and miles of smiles
just because you smiled I wish your

you caqn ask for a home visit ,tell them that you are unabale to attend due to your condition and could someone come to you or they will need to see you elsewhere in a suitable building ,they cant make you id ask citizens advice and explain the problem ,they can quote things ie under section blah blah this is unsuitable for the purpose and they request on your behalf for a home visit or a suitable venue ,state you arent refusing but you cannot manage the distance ect ,hope it goes well ....

I would ask anyway in your shoes - nothing lost is there and also point out the safety aspect of not being able to 'do stairs' and the (unlikely I know), possibility of a fire.

I like Wynnie's advice about getting 'backing' with it via CAB (there is DIAL too who may be able to help??), but surely any reasonable person would see how unsuitable the venue is :?

Here's an article straight from the horses's mouth ie Atos own guidelines on home visits. It does say, as I've heard before, that if you normally can make it to other appointments of similar distance etc they take that as indicating you can turn up to theirs.. however that doesn't cover the stairs issue, so might be worth looking into further. You will need some sort of supporting dr's evidence as I understand it.

    Hello emmared
You must tell them you cant mange the steps or walking form wherever you park...its just not fair to hold medicals in place that are not accessible for the disabled..it makes my blood boil...good luck x

Well I've rang them today about the stairs and she said would I prefer a ground floor so I said yes she has transferred me to a different medical centre. Also told her I wanted it recording so she says I now have to wait for another letter with my appointment for durham.
So hopefully this will be easier to get to.

I'm sorry. I've only just seen this
I had ti have a home visit. I really would not have made it them.
They just insisted I got a letter from my GP. He was happy to help

Please don't let them bully you into doing something you shouldn't. Plus, they will try get you to do physical things that you know will hurt. REFUSE TO DO THEM IF SO. You have the right to say no if it's gonna cause too much pain.

I won my appeal and was placed in the support group.

    Best of luck.
