Hi All,

As per my thread on Acupuncture and both this and physiotherapy not really helping, I am most likely now going to be sent to a pain clinic as well as a spinal specialist.

The physio mentioned something about hypnosis and teaching self hypnosis to make the pain go away. Now, I know nothing about this but have always believed this to be a load of hocus pokus but has anyone actually had it and found it to work?

Also, she mentioned Phantom pains? Not sure exactly what she meant by this as I get pain in my back to which I have Spondylosis, pain in my neck, to which I have Spondylosis and pain in my hips to which I have OA in both. Its these pains and stifness in these areas that I am having treatment for. I know of referred pain, I get this in my Knees but the term Phantom pain is new to me. :?

    Hiya,

I don't know much about hypnosis but I know meditation definitely helps me. Maybe it would work similar to some of the guided meditation cd's? I don't know how I would cope without meditating to be honest. It helps me deal with pain immensely. Even if it makes you feel better in general, more relaxed, etc it puts you in a better frame of mind to deal with pain.

Although there are different types of mediating, Buddhist meditation is very different from the regular type of relaxation mediation cd's you can get. I find that a mix of both does me the world of good. And I don't feel yukky from the side effects of pain killers either! (although occasionally I do need them still)

I find that Tai Chi is good as its almost moving whilst meditating once you know the moves. I can recommend a home dvd called Tai Chi for arthritis by Dr Paul Lam. It cost me £20 off amazon but its money well spent for me.

Knowing the pain that arthritis causes I am a firm believer in don't knock it till you try it lol :)

    Best Wishes

I have only heard of phantom pain involving the sensation of pain in a part of the body that has been removed. Perhaps there is some other kind of phantom pain too.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.
