My OA is now so severe in my neck that my painkillers can't cope. My osteopath is very good, but the benefits of his excellent treatment only last about 3 to 4 days now and then its back to the head pain. I know there are many neck OA sufferers using the forum and was wondering if any of you have had any form of surgery to help alleviate the pain? Or does anybody know of any surgery procedures that would help?

I'm seeing my doctor on Wednesday and want to go along armed with as many facts as I can find.

It's very strange Barbara. Thankfully what I would call my neck does not and never has been painful. It does get stiff at the top, but I get such dreadful pains running through my head and I find anti inflams more useful than straight forward painkillers. My doctor once tried me on tramadol and I was so sick I couldn't get out of bed, so I won't touch them again. I was diagnosed with the problem 23 years ago and it has got much worse since I had my hip replaced in 2010. My osteopath confirmed my suspicions it was because of the way I now walk with the replacement hip and I can't do anything about that. I've ordered a special pillow and one of those 'u' shaped supports when travelling in the car as I do find any little jolt will start my head off. I've got an appointment with my doctor on Wednesday and I'm going to ask for an up to date x-ray. He is at my surgery for 18 months as a registrar and he seems to be very thorough in his treatment of his patients, so an approach from someone new, young and very charming may yield more help than the old doctors who just write out another prescription.

I have booked a few days in Hastings to meet some of the relatives I have recently found whilst doing my ancestry research, but am now debating whether to attempt the journey.

Hope you had a good Easter. Very chilly here in good old Essex.
