Hi I am new to the the site having just been diagnosed with oestoathritis in my foot. It has been painful for about a year now and its seem to be getting worse. The doc has advised paracetemol, but not recommended surgery as it would restrict my movement further. I have always been fit and active walking and caravanning. At the moment walking much further than 1/2 mile before the pain becomes to much. Any advice or info would be welcome?

Hi jpd sorry you had to find us.
I too have OA in various places including my feet and ankles, I take ibuprofren along with cocodomols, which dulls things when they're bad.
Has your doctor referred you to see a podiatrist? They will look at the mechanics of your feet/legs and possibly prescribe orthotics for your shoes. In meantime wear sensible shoes, with good support and if the cold weather's a problem ... good warm socks!
Good luck

Hi jpd
Welcome to the forum, it is OA in my hands I have and suspect my neck, I'm surprised your GP didn't give you some anti-inflams as well, scozzie has given you some good advice about the podiatrist, I'm afraid the forum has been a bit quiet being the Easter break, hopefully some of the others will be along soon to give there input, hope to see you around.............tc..............Marie xSmile a while and while you smile

Hi there
Welcome to the club! I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both big toes last year after a lot of tooing and froing to the gp, physio, etc I went to see a podiatrist. They have tried me with various insoles to try and put my feet in a better position. I would recommend wearing sensible shoes with a proper arch like trainers or walking boots and push your gp to refer you to a podiatrist asap.
Good luck. Keep us posted!
