Pre op assessment

Hi
I have had my pre op assessment today, not sure if I told anyone when I was going. My Mum drove me there and stayed with me for company. But it was very efficient and I was done and dusted very quickly.
I had the usual , bloods and urine samples taken, swabs for MRSA, blood pressure, ECG, lots of forms and questions and signatures for permission for bone donation, National Joint Registry, etc...
I got lots of reading material about the hip replacement, anaesthetic, and Occupational Therapy. One of the forms from OT is for me to measure my leg (floor to knee height) and all my toliets, chairs , bed etc.. ready for equipment like chair risers, raised loo seat....
I am apparently fit and healthy!! so I didn`t need to see the gas man today, but I made sure I told the nurse I AM having a GA!!! I want to be fully knocked out on the day thankyou!!
Since I got home I have had phone calls from Wrightington`s OT and local OT who will be coming to visit me at home to assess my needs.
So it feels like it is really happening now, EEK!
So I am waiting for a date for my THR now, if a cancellation it could be very short notice, but if not I will get a letter.
So I am waiting now.........
NB

    Hi
    Thanks Barbara,
Wrightington are so on the ball! Please don`t worry (ha ha says me!!) The equipment arrives really quick once the OT orders it. I am sorting my stuff for taking in hospital now (not quite like a labour bag  ) I just need new slippers (with backs) -you just have to have new ones for in hospital!!
I need more books on my Kindle to try to read, (I found it hard to concentrate on anything last time) And then I need to plan my kitchen cupboards so I can reach things post op without bending, as we have moved house since my last one was done .
    Hope you are ok x

    Hi Elaine and Numpty
Thanks for your replies and support :D
I feel a little bit more nervous now as it feels closer.
Recovery will be different this time as it is a different time of year so I hope to spend a bit of time sat in the garden. It was February last time and was cold, and miserable.
Hope you are both doing ok

    Hi NB
    It is going to be fast isn't it....Our OT are fantastic so no need to worry about that {was it Barbara?}
I think the sooner the better.
My 1st THR was Feb and it was miserable and icey so I would much prefer the 2nd one done (if they get their finger out  ) in the better weather

I hope I am not to late and you have already been and had it done. But wanted to say that my thoughts are with you. And if you are still waiting, lets hope it's not a long wait. Glad you have the pre-op out of the way.

Let us know as soon as you do hear something.

    Hi Karen
No I have not had it done yet! It is all happening quickiy, but not that quickly thank goodness
I haven`t heard anymore from OT today, and may miss their call if they ring tomorrow as we have the annual family trip to the opticians . A new optician too, as our usual ones have closed down  It will be a long afternoon as along with my tests (including checking me for glaucoma as my Mum has it), they will be seeing my daughter`s mole in her eye for the first time, which I am sure will cause a lot of interest. She has some tests at the eye hospital next week too which is always a loooooonnngg appointment.
    Thanks for your support x

    Hi Joan
Thanks x I hope I am not waiting too long too. I have put a few things to one side to take in to hospital eg nightshirts, toiletries etc....
Tomorrow the OT is coming out to see me to arrange equipment and assess me for anything I need.
I will be jumping every time I get a phone call on my mobile with a with held number now, just in case it is the admissions lady!!
    Thanks again x
