Hi!

I just signed the petition "Iain Duncan Smith: Iain Duncan Smith to live on £53 a week." on Change.org.

It's important. Will you sign it too? Here's the link:

I have signed it Elna. I've also read comments by people saying signing a petition won't do any good.

Personally I'd like to see him try and survive on the JSA rate of £71, pay a contribution towards rent and council tax and feed, clothe and keep himself warm like many are now having to do. Hopefully his fridge or washing machine machine will break down at the same time :D

    Dear Elizabeth,

 If everyone said that about petitions none of them would ever do any good, aye? It takes seconds to sign a petition so I always do so on the ones I agree with.

Let IDS eat his words. I would have loved to have heard him say "If I had to, I would " in answer to the interviewer asking him if he could live on that amount.

I liked one of the supporter's comments on the petition , "If you are going to lead...lead by example"

    Love

So would I Gilly. That man has absolutely no idea, he should try it for a long time so he can feel the utter panic that sets in when something extra has to be paid, that has not been planned for. Deciding whether to eat or not for a few days.

It seems he is refusing. The only way to answer his critics is for him to try and live on £53 and anything else is just a cop-out.

    Hey Elna,

I signed it too - these MP's need to get down from their Ivory towers and see how real people live.
There is something very wrong when, in 21st century Britain, Children and the Elderly are living in poverty!
This sorry excuse for a human being probably spends more than £53 on a new tie!! :x

As David Cameron quoted "we are all in this together".....really David ? Not when one of your henchmen can afford to spend £39 on breakfast. I signed the petiton also as it only takes a minute although as said it probably will do no good as that lot are immune from having to do anything like that and even when they are kicked out in the next election they will be saying I'm alright Jack with their big fat pensions paid for by us.

At least we signed so we did something however tiny that may be. Thanks for signing. As you say it takes seconds.

Hi Elfanin apparently if there is more than (I think one hundred thousand signatures) on a petition it has to be discussed in the house of commons and as far as I'm aware last time I heard, a day or so ago they had 2 hundred thousand.....will they take it up for disscussion.....I doubt it very much and if they did and it was passed I would say he live on £53 a week for the very minimum at least 6 months if I had my way a year (and sorry to put it this way just in case it offends) in a sink of an estate.......been there done it and got the Tshirt

I also meant to say we lived on an estate (not a pleasant one through circumstance) before we moved to the village we are in now, it looks like a very small housing estate but with nothing but fields for a few miles around we got a move here partly due to my health we were in an upstairs flat and with a bathroom (bath) you could barely swing a cat in....not that I would  and also we were at risk of retaliation ie car trashed etc due to the work my OH does. Don't get me wrong there is the odd undesirable in the village but they would soon know if they overstepped the line with the other residents whereas in the other house my OH had dealings with quite a high majority of the residents in the other house.

I read Its a different kind of petition. I wonder if they will start another petition that could end up for discussion?

    Reached 400,000 signatures - 3 April 2013

    Reached 2,000 signatures - 1 April 2013

That is what it says at the end of the petition.

Thank you to those on the forum that have signed. We have done our little bit and it took no effort whatsoever. ;)

Elna likes this. Think what a difference we, as a forum, could make to petition numbers without any effort, but from previous experience, it unfortunately does not happen. Would love to be proved wrong. ;) I do appreciate that not all who sign the petition will post on this thread to say they have as I do not always.

If he'd really tasted unemployment and its associated benefit he would be more sympathetic.

I would hate him to do the party piece of living of the £53 for a week...its the same when they go and live rough on the streets for a day or so..I am sure i could do both if there was light at the end of the tunnel. :x
