This site is amazing for support when we feel down, but today I thought I'd share some good news .
Last Thursday I took early retirement after 30 years of teaching- the RA has made it harder and harder over the last 5 years, and despite reducing my hours and responsibilities I was struggling, so with the support and encouragement of my lovely hubby I bit the bullet and applied for early retirement. Everyone at school was amazingly encouraging and supportive and gave me a wonderful send off, and now I'm sitting watching birds in the sunshine in my garden and life feels much brighter. I know that the RA won't improve, but the stress of struggling in having been awake and in pain half the night will be less, and if I fancy a nap I'll have one!
Just wanted to share my positive thoughts and emotions because we so often have tough stuff to share. Hope you're all having an okay kind of day, and if not that you too have good folks around to support you.

It is so lovely to hear some good news and thankyou for that. It must have taken a lot of thinking to retire but you know you have done the right thing. As you said, you can now relax and do things when you want. It means you will have more a grip on your ra. Good for you.Karen xx0

Awww lovely news. We always like to hear the good stuff! Given what I've seen of your kindness, compassion and willingness to help on these boards, I'm not suprised you got such a wonderful send of. (I really mean that!) I can imagine you were a fantastic teacher.
All the best with your retirement. I hope the sun comes out and that you get to enjoy your garden. I'm sure you will find some great things to do to fill your day. Enjoy and give yourself a big pat on the back. Make sure you have your naps, lie ins in the morning and just generally relax -it's your time now. I have major respect for teachers, they do a tough job.
