Hello all,
Can anyone advise me how to deal with my problem. I am in 24/7 pain in my left hip. I find that when I cannot rest overnight because of it . I have been putting a cold bottle of water against it and it helps to reduce the inflamation. I would like to have a recepticle in my bedroom that I can access at night to have cold packs or cold wheatbags . Has anyone any knowledge or suggestions that I can check out. Is there a mini freezer one can get or a mini coolbag with a flexable cold pack as they have to go against my hip joint and thigh. My bedroom is on the first floor and my large freezer is on the ground floor so it is impractical to get up and down the stairs to get the cold bags in the night. Plus the fact that I am 77 now and unsteady on my feet.
As I have other Health Problems nothing can be done about my hip so I have to seek out knowledge as to how to make things a little easier as you all know the pain dictates what you can do not what you would like to.
Any suggestions will be gratefuuly received. Thank you B> :?: :?:

    Hi again
I just had a thought maybe the freezer or cool bags would help in the night...the ones that keep things cold....the more cold items you have in there they will last longer...freeze a couple bottles of water and they should keep each other cold...hope this helps

Hello again Blackbear, it's lovely to hear from you but I am so sorry you are having this struggle at the moment. All I can think of is adding water to a seal-able freezer bag and freezing it (the opposite of a hot water bottle). Come night-time wrap it in a hand towel so that as it thaws it's mopped (it may drape quite neatly over your hip too, that's my thinking). One can buy small fridges (I bought one for nmy husband for his office, it reamains unused) but I don't know much about small freezers - there's also the de-frosting to consider. A small fridge may give enough 'cold' to keep a supply of frozen bags for the night.

I'm sorry, I'm not too bonny myself at the moment thanks to a bug and this is all I can come up with. If my brain sparks up again with summat bettter I'll come back. Take care and I wish you well. DD

    Hello Blackbear,

I have a small frige in our disability extension so I can keep milk, fruit juice & fruit in it. My hubby has two 1litre bottles of squash in its little freezer & it keeps it lovely & cold, it can often freeze his squash too.

I must sound awful having a fridge in the bedroom but wen we're both ill its been a godsend. Our 2 girls that still live at home will make us up sandwiches wen we're both really bad so we can eat wen they're out, so cute of them :D I also have a kettle etc for my coffee.ha ha

I'm fairly sure that you can buy, from a chemist, chemical cold packs!! They're only one use but you just need to bend them so that the chemicals can mix & its almost instantly a cold pack. They may well less trouble for you as there's no mess & they're so easy to use. They do heat packs like it too.

I'm so sorry ure struggling so much at the moment, I hope the pain eases for you very soon.x

You can buy flexable cold packs which can be frozen or heated depending on what you want. An insulated cool box would easily keep the frozen packs cool enough to be of use for you overnight. I used several flexable cool packs recently, they're jell filled and can be moulded to fit along whatever you want. If you try some of the larger chemists you should be able to get them, they are not the once only type and will last for years.
    Hope this helps.

You can get coolpack reusable packs where you snap or bash the pack and they go cold ...we use them in our first aid boxes at school.

you can get ones that go warm too...a bit like the hand warmer things.

Hello BB, I am so pleased that we might have been able to help and I hope your 'experiments' work. If they do please post them on the permanent thread concerning 'useful ideas' at the top of this board (I really must learn its name!) I wish you well. DD

You can get "instant" ice packs, you just squeeze and shake and they go instantly cold, mind you the ones I used to use (took them to work) are one-use only so you have to throw them away afterwards. If you buy them in the shops they're quite expensive, but if you have a search online you can find them for as little as 50p each (if you buy in bulk).
