    Hello Aprilann,

I can't give you any advice as I'm on methotrexate still but I've been getting multiple chest infections & have finally been given steroids & told to stop the mtx!!

I'm seeing my Dermatologist, who has me on the higher dosage, next week & my GP & I both think she needs to put me on a different medication. I'm wondering, if she agrees, whether I'll be offered a biologic too.

I'll be watching ure post to see wot advice ure given. The best of luck, I'm sure you'll get some great advise :D x

    hi Aprilann

they will do x-rays of your lungs before starting any of the anti-tnf drugs , think asthma is fine with it because I never had any questions about my asthma , arthritis care has a free helpline if you are worried

there is several booklets about the new bio drugs from Arthritis research & National Rheumatiod Arthritis Socitey & your Rheumy Department should have them

I have used three different anti TNF meds all with methotrexate and before each one I was given a full check over, bloods xrays and scans. I have my blood checked every six weeks and have had no problems.

    Hello Aprilann,

I'm not sure about the anti-tnfs, but I believe that Rituximab (not anti-tnf, but still part of the group of "biologic" drugs) can be used if you have lung disease. I met a man at the hospital with lung disease (rheumatoid related if I remember rightly) and he was having Rituximab infusions.

Not sure if this helps any....

    Hi ya,
I've just been referred into the nhs to begin anti TNF, have been on max dose MTX and steroids but all my symptoms have returned and inflammatory markers are going up again.
Those of you that have / are on anti TNF, how have you got on? What is the timescale involved with noticing an improvement? Is it 3-6months like MTX?

    Thanks for all your advice
