Naproxen and haematomas?

Hi
I have been taking Naproxen for a while, and take Omeprazole as a stomach protector. From time to time I get little bruises on my hands mainly, on the joints , like burst blood vessels. I also have Raynauds and wondered if it was part of this.
Now yesterday I noticed a large swelling and black and blue bruise developing on the back of my hand, just over the knuckle of my middle finger. I was calling at my GP`s to collect a prescription, MR NB was driving, so I asked if someone could look at my hand. The GP asked if I was taking aspirin, which I told him no. He looked at my list of medication and said it`s the Naproxen , it can cause haematomas. I asked if I should stop taking it? And he said to try to stop it 4-5 days before my THR to prevent problems with bleeding/bruising.
I went home and applied and ice pack, and it looked a bit better this morning. But just now I felt my finger going numb (like it does from cold with the Raynaud`s) and noticed the bruising re appearing and spreading down my fingers and hand. I have taken off my wedding ring as I was worried about swelling, and have got the ice out again.
Has anyone else had probemls with Naproxen and haematomas?

NB..I have recently tried to do with less antiinflams because of the scare over blood clots..but yours seems to be doing the opposite... its awful how we have to take meds with side effects...but till they bring new ones out we have no choice..did the hospital not tell you to stop them before your op :?:Love

Hello, I am also taking Naproxen and Opeprazole....and I too have been getting bruising on the upper side of my right foot, my fingers and my left knee. They are quite sore and painful, despite having never injured them. I heard that it could be a symptom of RA, but I guess it could be the Naproxen.... Has anyone else had this?? x0

Hi , thanks for your replies x
Elaine, I cannot have aspirin if I am on Naproxen as they both `thin` the blood.
Barbara, No, the hospital didn`t say anything about stopping any meds before the op. I think I will ring the Athroplasty nurse to check when I get a
date through. Thanks for the link.
Gemma,
I don`t have RA so can`t comment on that, but would ask about the side effects of your Naproxen and see which is causing your bruising.
I still have a boggy feeling swelling on the back of my hand. My fingers have regained their feeling again, for now! I will be glad to be cutting down on these meds.
Although my low back, and hip (all round ) have been awfully painful today and have not been relieved at all by any medication I have taken including my Morphine Sulphate and Oromorph.
Thanks again x

Hi
All I know is that naproxen increases any blood flow
I've got a cold and for 3 days my nose has been bleeding quite badly....This isn't normal for me....The doc has said I have to come of my naproxen until the bleeding stops and for about 5 days after that.
Help...that leaves me with paracetamol only
I'm just wondering can I come off the lansoprozol while not taking the naproxen....sorry just a thought that occurred while I was typing this.
Love

So nsaids like naproxen and asprin thin blood by making the blood cells less sticky and u need them sticky to clot properly this is why u bruise more easily. It would be worth asking the doc about some codeine to take whilst off naproxen to help with ur pain u can ask about ur lansoprasol then too but prob not worth it for a couple of weeks.x0
