Hello all
I only seem to come on here when I have a question so apologies for that. Last time I posted on the site I was reducing the steroids I take as I have been on them for a long time. Anyway im still reducing!!!! I must admit its not a nice experience!. Any way the last visit to the rheumy he has now prescribed me with Hydroxychloroquine what joy! Je tells me they compliment the methatrexate?????? Do any of you take this combination and if so does it work??????
Finally getting my head round this arthritis lark and I do have good days and bad – but my old friend pain does visit everyday! I do hope this new medication works just a few days of feeling normal would be great.
Do any of you use alternative medicines or therapy? Which work would love to here
All the best

Meth and hydroxy are a very common combination. They've been doing a good job for me for years. Hydroxy is very low on side-effects. 'Feeling normal', however, is not something I can relate to
What is normal? I certainly don't expect pain-free. 'Tolerable' is good.
Reducing steroids is a long, tough process. Keep at it, Geoff.
I gave up on alternatives long ago. I stick to prescribed meds, a healthy diet and exercises. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I devoted 2011 to stopping prednisalone but I no longer miss it. Meth and hydroxy is a common combination (I suspect a fair few of us on here are on at least two meds, some of us more). Will it work? That depends on what you mean by 'work'. They may help to ease the worst of the symptoms but it's very rare for everything to disappear, never to return. Alternatives? Save your money. Pain? Never goes, for me it's there twanging away 24/7 all year round. It's a grand life.

Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Hi,
I found that Hydroxychloroquine upset my stomach and caused my abdomin to bloat!! Not nice.
The methotrexate didn't work for me, I don't think. I stopped it in November but had a flare up since March. So seeing Rheumy this Friday and hoping to try something different!!
Good luck with drugs!!LOVE EMMA X0 -
