Do people take meth when they feel unwell?

I’m due to take my meth in the morning, I have been feeling slightly under the weather for the last day or so but woke up today with a high temp, feeling sick and a tight chest. My throat is also slightly sore. I have called my rheumatology helpline and left a message but I’m not expecting a reply today as I’m sure they are still shut due to refurbishments, although I suspect someone might be taking messages on the phone. I have not long come back from trying to see my gp, I was told on the phone I had an emergency appointment but only got to see a nurse…. I asked to see a doctor but was told no and that was the end of it. The nurse just told me it was probably something viral and it would go in a day or two and to rest, she basically ignored the fact that my temp was 39.7 this morning. It was 38.3 when she took my temp and said that it was nothing to worry about.

My question is do people usually take meth when they are sick? I totally forgot to ask this when I was given the medication and don’t feel like risking it. I know when I was on Enbrel and Humira I was told to not take the medication while I was sick. I’m assuming it’s the same for meth but just wanted to make sure.

I didn't take my mtx when I felt unwell.

Have you any patient leaflet, advice literature on hand that tells you what to do? 39 is high for a temp so perhaps you should try to speak to an out of hours doctor this evening if you haven't got hold of one today. I seem to remember that I had bloods done when I got ill with sore throat, temperature or anything else, my out of hours docs always sent me to A&E (mostly because it was in the same building) and then my gp then gave me a supply of blood forms so I could just take myself off when I got ill without all the palaver of seeing someone.

    Hi
    Sorry you are feeling unwell
It does say on my methotrexate book not to take it when unwell and contact your GP
Think it will be the same nationwide

I don't take it if I have a sore throat, that is the advice of my rheumatologist and I wouldn't take it either if I had a temperature. If one has symptoms of an illness it has to be fairly well established because, thanks to our 'reduced' immune systems we don't know how poorly we might be. When in doubt don't but let them know you haven't and the reason why. I hope you soon feel better. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I actually got a phone call back. The nurse I spoke to was very helpful and told me to not take my meth, she told me if things don't get better by the morning or things start to get worse then I should call NHS direct to be seen by an out of hours gp, apparently on the Anti TNF that I’m on (infliximab) I need to be even more careful than I was while on Humira and Enbrel as this anti tnf is given in higher doses into the vein so and I have no option to skip a dose etc if I become sick.

Thanks all for your reply, I'm now off to rest in bed and hope things improve overnight!
