For the past few weeks I've been keeping an eye on our collared dove's nest, a somewhat scrappy construction flung together in a laurel bush. My neighbour first spotted the mother sitting a-top the haphazard collection of twigs, she looked down at us, quite unperturbed. A week or so later I reckoned I could see the tails of two little ones and over the past fortnight they have flourished into two fat little birds. One took their maiden flight on Tuesday, then yesterday both went out for a while. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I know how one gets involved with them. We had a sparrow who nested in our roof for two or three years. In the end she had her own seed supply from an old container the other birds all disdained. She must have been dizzy flying backwards and forwards every few minutes.

For messy, rickety nests - have you ever seen a stork's? They'd definitely win the bad housekeeping award.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I think birds are really clever. Some of them make quite intricate nests, and without hands too.

Presumably the others use their hands?
