Today is the day that Elna has to say the final goodbye to her belovéd mother. Having done that myself in the recent past I know how difficult a day it can be. I am thinking of you. DD

    Elna today will be full of every emotion going...I am so glad that some of your mums family have manged to come over...hopefully you will all share some very happy memories.....you take care because it will be so draining for you..sending lots of comforting hugs (((((()))))xx

    Thank you DD for starting the thread. That was so kind and thoughtful of you considering you had so much on your mind this weekend.

    I was told that 110 people attended on Friday. It certainly was a full house. Everything went very smoothly and even the weather kept dry. The service to celebrate my mum's life was uplifting and full of love for her. There were quite a laughs which helped me immensely. So many people wished to talk to me after close family and I arrived back from the committal for refreshments. All immediately recognised my mum's sister and brother who had flown in, one from Denmark and the other from Finland.

    I shall miss her dreadfully, but she was so unwell and tired at the end.
    None of us go on forever but she will forever be in my heart.

    Hello Elna I’m so sorry for your loss, sorry I haven’t been about much. You have been so supportive
    to so many of in the past and I myself have experienced a large share of your care. Please except our condolences our thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Thank you Marie, Unsure, Colin and Barbara,

    I hope you are all okay-ish. Thank you for your kind words.

    I collected mum's ashes this afternoon and took her home to her bungalow where she will stay until we arrange the scattering of her ashes at her second home which was her local Quaker Meeting House, a listed building and surrounded by a lovely large, tranquil garden.

    I'm so so sorry for your loss
    Mums are so precious to us
    My mum is still alive but after her stroke she's not the same and I do miss my old mum but still love my mum with all my heart she still has her sparkle there it's just not as bright
    Your mum will live on in your heart

    Thank you Maria for your kind words. It is lovely to hear that your mum still has her sparkle. even if it is not so bright since her stroke. My mum's sparkle waxed and waned near the end of her life but on the Monday afternoon before she died just less that 48 hours later, her sparkle was definitely there and we got so many smiles, it was a beautiful visit, not knowing that would be the last time she would be able to speak to me. I was with her for her last hour and I shall always be comforted by that. I like to believe that I have felt her presence three times after she died, each time I was in our kitchen looking out of the window, and that has been a wonderful experience.

    Elna - I have 'felt' my Mum many times since she went, but most often at the beginning like you. Smells too..... I am sure you are right and am so glad she has been able to comfort you like this.
