Bye-bye duvet.

I think yet another thing will be 'kicked into touch' thanks to Living with Arthritis. Today I have tried more than thrice to shake our stupidly light duvet into something resembling 'freshness' but, needless to say, have failed.
I think it may be time to return to the wondrous world of sheets and blankets. I have yet to ascertain just how tangled me and he will become with sheets I may not be able to 'tuck in' so please wish us luck with experimenting.
My late Ma has a wondrous selection of natural fibre blankies so I shall avail myself on the next visit to her house and invest in pure cotton sheets. And I won't iron them.
hey-ho. DD

Yes, I am also frustrated with the trying to make the bed look presentable, like you the tucking in part is getting more trying, I have been pondering with getting some fitted sheets and a fitted bedspread.
I thought you could put anything underneath the bedspread ie a duvet without a cover or whatever you choose and it wont be seen, there are a lot of gorgeous fitted bedspreads out there, I am sure there will be others along to give ther input, hope you get sorted out soon............Marie xx

Hello DD. Shall be interested to know how you get on with your sheet/blanket experiment. I find a fitted sheet and then a duvet is the easiest for me. I must admit I struggle with getting the duvet cover on at times but apparently it is possible to get duvet covers that open on 3 sides so you just lay duvet on and then fasten. Keep meaning to get one but they are a little expensive and the colours available are a bit limited.
Hope your experimenting is successful.

Hi DD,If you find you can't get on with sheets and blankets google three sided opening duvet covers there are quite a few company's that do them, some have buttons and I did see at least one that had a zipper round three sides. (((()))). Mig0

Hi DD,
I feel your frustration!! I'm really lucky that one of my children usually do it for me but if I'm alone the only way I stand a chance of success is to turn the quilt cover inside out, putting my arms inside of it & grabbing the corners then grabbing the quilt corners in the same hands & then shaking it into the cover ... It comes out the right way then. I'm sure you all use that technique already tho.Lol Hubby & I have separate beds tho as his is a hospital bed & mine is a movable one with massage modes. He has severe RLS & I couldn't stand all the kicking etc Lol
I hope you find a way that makes it easier for you!! I couldn't use blankets & sheets coz of the weight on my joints & skin (fm, very sensitive skin & psoriasis) I REALLY hope the weight won't affect you.
Good luck.xHealing Hugs

Hi DD, I suppose I'm lucky that my OH does that for us! But yes we have some side opening quilt covers and my OH prefers them to the normal ones.
I doubt we will go back to sheets and blankets because when I mentioned them to him the response you could was 'negative'!!I would find sheets and blankets heavy, will be interesting seeing how you get on.

I never understand why people stick with duvets. I hate them.
Mr SW's normal generosity goes out of the window where duvets are concerned. He tucks them underneath him before rolling over in winter, ensuring the entire duvet goes with him then, in summer, I wake up lathered to find he's tossed his half over on top of mine.
We now only do duvets when visiting. We reverted to blankets years ago. There are some lightweight ones about, they wash relatively easily and, if he wants an extra one on his side, he can have it without me having to endure it too. No contest. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I don't struggle with the duvet covers, I have reasonably long arms and have used a fitted bottom sheet for years. What is now causing trouble is the weight of the duvet itself - it's only a 4.5 tog feather kingsize but it's not easy to shake any more. Our summer one is a 3 tog cotton superking (no shaking required but it's weighty too) so gawd knows how I'll manage that one - well, I don't think I will but I won't know until I try.
It's all about adapting, I suppose. My mum always taught me that a house looks neater when the bed is made and by crikey she's right.Whether I shall bother with a bedspread is another matter - probably not. The idea is to reduce effort not increase it, but I do have some upstairs somewhere. I'll think on't and then decide. I suppose I should ask his opinion too.

Hi DD
Let us know us know how you get on with the blankets.
I cant imagine going back to them.
I have a fitted sheet and duvet but OH and I do the duvet together....we have separate beds and it means doing two ....but between the 2 of us we manage
Whatever suits you best.
As you know we have to experiment with different ways of doing things when we have arthur

Ah, now that's a different matter  I leave the bed, with all bedding, hanging off the end, until at least mid-afternoon to air it. It does som, etimes get embarassing though as we live in a bungalow with the the bedroom directly off the hall and visible to all-comers. I try to keep the door closed but Mr SW was born in a barn :roll:If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I have a feather duvet, and a lighter one for warmer weather. Any shaking that needs to be done, I get Humpty or my daughter to do. I always fold it back neatly, in the morning to air it, and it often stays that way until bedtime.
I don't think I could be doing with the faff of sheet and blankets, all those layers!stickywicket wrote:I try to keep the door closed but Mr SW was born in a barn

But I have it on good authority from my mother-in-law that, at Mr SW’s birth, there were no angels singing, no bright, moving star and definitely no visitor bearing a gift of goldIf at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
