Hi there...... In a weeks time I'm having a us guided injections in both my hips, I was just wondering if there's anyone who can give me some advice on it. For starters will it hurt?! Lol not that I'm a wimp last time I was given injections in my hips I was 15 and put asleep, but this occasion I will obviously be awake. I'm just concerned of the pain after as I'm having it done in a different city to where I live and public transport is my only option really. So if anyone has any advice pleeeeeease let me know........

Thank u :)

    Good evening

I had this done last year and it was more uncomfortable rather than painful, it takes more time to scan than it does for the actual injections, i had it done fron hip to hip, i did need someone to come pick me up though as that is what the recommend, got to say it did not work for me, also you need time off work afterwards .

Good luck with it and take care

Thank u lily.... That's my concern about not having anyone to come with, and having to get 3 buses. Ive got the following 2days off work hoping that will be enough. I'm glad it doesn't hurt really. Sorry to hear it didnt work for u, I've been having general steroid injections for years now obviously as well as bucket loads of meds but I'm now 25 and the illness seems to be gradually getting worse as I get older, so I'm praying that it sort of works, more for my sanity if anything else lol. Have u found anything that's worked since??
    Thank u

    Hello Kirsty
I dont think they will do it if you have to get 3 buses home, I have had two and each time it is who is picking you up, thank goodness I have my OH, I do hope you can find someone to take and pick you up.
It may be worth asking them about volunteer driver for the hospital..or even an ambulance.
Sorry forgot to say it is uncomfortable but not too painful...I do wish you well with it all...and good luck with the transport..x
    Love

    Hi Kirsty,

As Barbara said, you may be eligible for hospital transport if self-funding a taxi is not an option. It sounds like the hospital is not too close to you, so a taxi may be expensive. Some hospitals operate a scheme where volunteer drivers offer lifts to people who cannot get there, so it might be worth asking about that too.

I've had ultrasound guided and x-ray guided steroid injections and found them a little uncomfortable and weird feeling but not painful. The initial injection stings a tad but it didn't hurt and the sting went away in a few seconds. I've not had in my hips but in my ankles and I've been able to walk afterwards except for the time I had 2 in one ankle and they sent me away with crutches. They said that is very unusual but I wouldn't like to think if you were sore afterwards, that you have to struggle home on public transport.

    Hi,
I had guided injections into my hips 4 weeks ago. I went for it under Ultrasound but was told by the consultant that he was only prepared to do it under X-ray, so I had to go to another hospital a couple of days later as they didn't have the right piece equipment in the smaller hospital. There had apparently been a misunderstanding when arranging appointments.

I was nervous as I had heard horror stories about the procedure, I have to say it was absolutely nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. They would only do it if I had someone to drive me home, and they checked to make sure I had someone with me.

The distance from the X-ray dept to the car park was far, but after the procedure I was given a cup of tea and was able to walk out. Albeit with the same amount of pain and difficulty as I usually have on walking.

If it had worked for me I would have certainly have had it done it again. Unfortunately it hasn't helped me at all.

The only after effect was considerable bruising in my groin.

Good luck, I really hope it works for you.

Thank u all... I really hope it works too, 10yrs on and still find it hard now, I hope it works as they suggested some in hospital iv treatment which I'm hoping won't be needed. It's good to know there's others here in the same boat specially when I'm young and no one understands.

I've asked by brothers gf to hopefully fetch me back home after, otherwise I'm guna have t see if I can get patient transport. Glad to hear its not painful and I thought it would be more uncomfortable than anything I mean who wants needles stuck into there joints lol.

    Thank u all xx
