got the call earlier this afternoon to tell me to be in for 12.30pm... so now that makes it official, before the call it was just a date on the calendar but now... well, you have all been there so you will know EXACTLY what i mean... and these preop drinks are disgusting !!
Well, see you all when i get out, stay safe and enjoy the sun, typical, meant to be the hottest day of the year tomorrow  !!

I take it you didn't add the whisky

Good luck, Sally, though I'm sure luck won't come into it.

hi everyone. thanks for all your messages, you lot are great :)
well the op itself went fine, i opted for the total knockout, and very glad i did as the sugeon came round next morning and told me that they had to almost force the new ceramic hip in as my bone was so narrow, "a lot of hammering, pushing and cussing" were his words. but its now that i am suffering. this one is SO much more painful than the other three. i am getting 2 hours of solid sleep a night so i am knackered all day, i try to doze during the day but no. my knee is killing as is my back, kind of feel like i wish i hadn't had it done. i know it will get better, just wish it would hurry up!! sorry to moan guys as i know some of you are in so much more pain than this and my hat goes off to you, i dont know how you cope. :(
    mucho love

    Hi Sally Anne
Glad your operation is over and as you know with your previous ops you will improve it will just take longer as you have had it replaced before so just take it slow and steady
I know the staff will be at you constantly with your exercises and walking regimes but you need to get plenty of rest including resting on your bed
I worked for 27 years on an orthopaedic ward and my how times have changed and not always for the better
Hip replacements were on bed rest for 2 days after surgery and stayed in hospital for 12-14 days
Now you are lucky if you are in for 3 days! We even had a guy who was home within 22 hours! In my opinion too much is expected too soon especially with the conditions we all have
Make sure you have lots of TLC when you are home
Just remember they won't send you home unless the physio says your safe on crutches/ sticks and safe on stairs last thing they want is you going home when you are not safe also your wound needs to be healing no signs of infection
Good luck with the rest of your recovery I hope all goes well
On my post you said I was brave having a spinal I say no you re the brave one you have had this done 3 times and knowing everything that happens you had it again so in my books that makes you the brave one
    Take care
    Keep up the good work

I’m glad it’s over for you, Sally. If your bone was narrow I guess it would make the surgeon’s work a bit harder but I always thought "a lot of hammering, pushing and cussing" was normal in orthopaedics. I see them as the medical equivalent of Dry Stone Wallers with brawn as essential as brain. Plus, they have to bend and flex your lower limb a lot to ensure all’s working well, probably getting it into positions it hasn’t achieved in years  It makes a lot of sense that all this will impact on you later.

However, you know the drill – rest, elevate and exercise and nothing else. I hope the trend will be upwards, however slowly :)
