So obv the Arthur gets around and these last few weeks I've been getting lots of pain on the sides if my thighs (amongst other joints!) , I know its not classical true hip pain as that's in the groin but does anyone else get this? Its really horrible and makes me walk with a swaying motion just can't seem to get my pelvis to swing properly but can't work out if it is my hip causing it or something else! Bit rubbish since that's my job!
Any tips for relieving it?

Hi lizzie
My hips at min seem to be the only joints not giving me problems
I sometimes get the same pain you are having but not as bad
I still don't know if it is hip pain or I've just twisted my muscles some how certainly not through exercise!
Have you done any exercise lately or have you fallen and injured your pelvis?
What ever has happened it sounds painful
Hope it eases soon

Hi Lizzie; I have that periodically too. I believe this is a bursitis. There is a bursa in this area. Mine really bothers me at night lying on my side, and walking as you describe. I use heat applications, rest and patiently wait for it to go away. I'm supposed (physio advice) to use alternating apps of heat and cold for ten minutes but I don't do cold packs!! So I just go with lots of heat applied for a long a possible! I think swimming is less aggravating than walking. Now if we could just swim everywhere

Oh and I forgot to mention, I use a topical diclofenac 10% gel/rub (prescription) that gives short-term relief for a few hours. I'm in Canada, so not sure if you have similar in the UK

Thanks all, did wonder if it was bursitis but has been going in so long was thinking it should have settled by now
seems to have had rather a bad effect on my muscles.
No, no exercise recently maria - I only wish I could am really missing riding my horse! Bit of a shock not being able to after so many years being ok on the mtx.
Will try some voltarol gel Anna hopefully will make me more comfortable.
Ah well will try and tether the toddler and rest a bit more but am fed up not doing anything active for 3 months, the sofa is very boring!!0 -
Hi Lizzie,
Had a similar problem which was diagnosed as trochanteric bursitis, when it didn't settle I had steroid injections into the bursa guided by ultra sound- it meant a couple of days in bed to give the steroid time to work but after a few days I felt lots better and haven't had any more problems for almost 2 years. Maybe it's worth ringing your rheumy nurse?
Hope it settles soon.
