Having one of those days....

For the first few years, I had virtually no reprieve from my RA symptoms, it was an endless slug of pain and swelling and lack of mobility. Since being on lefluonomide and MTX, my symptoms wax and wane more. I've had a little holiday from the symptoms for a few weeks as I've been unwell. (Strangely enough, when I have an infection or virus, my RA quietens down.) I am never fully symptom free but I can cope a little better with 'stuff'. Today, I woke up with a knee double it's size, wrists that refuse to bend fully and feet that protest loudly when I wiggle my toes. I don't know why but it's always such a shock and hits me like a tonne of bricks. I just end up thinking "I can't do this"! :(

I start my summer job tomorrow, so it's not great timing. Sorry for being a moaning Minnie, just feel a bit down this evening, must be the pre-Monday blues!

Ah, an auto-immune arthritis, the gift that keeps on giving (especially when you least need it). Bl**dy disease, isn't it just typical? I am sorry, I wish I could find summat wise to say but, quite frankly hon, those words don't exist for this situation. I do, however, know this: you are one tough cookie who will battle on and get through because you don't let this dross dominate your life. You thumb your nose in its face - good for you. DD

DD's right, Sophie. You can deal with it. You have done so many times.

It might be the stress of the job causing the flare. If so, it might calm down a bit once you've started it. I hope so.

    Hi
Hope you managed to get to your summer job
It's ****'s law as soon as you want to do something that damn disease decides it time to play and kicks you when you are down
Happens to my daughter all the time gets me so mad
I'd rather have it than her oops I have! She has ulcerative colitis I have OA and inflammatory arthritis so all related
Try and ignore it as much as you can I know when in pain and joints are swollen and tight it's difficult
Keep fighting you may have the disease but the disease doesn't have you

Thank you, thank you, thank you. xx

Despite a sleepless night, I did go in. I'm a stubborn old goat! My poor knee is in a bit of a state - swollen around the front and a big, squishy lump at the back, so I phoned my lovely rheumy nurse. She suspects a baker's cyst and ordered a blood test and rest. I've got a rheumy appt next Thursday anyway but I promised to phone back if it spreads down into the calf. I also admitted defeat and whipped out my old pair of crutches. Having defiantly refused to ever admit defeat, I was actually very pleased to have them!

Thanks again for the support. I'm going to lie on the sofa and soak up all the sympathy that my family are offering.

And I hope they're offering a lot, Sophie. You deserve it. You know that using the crutches isn't admitting defeat; on the contrary, it's refusing to admit defeat. Well done, both for going to work and for taking the sensible action by consulting the rheumatologist. Now do as advised
