We found out this last week that my husband has psioris arthiritus an is going to be given methatroxate. I've read the side effects My question is, my husband was going back to work but now he feels he's not able to. I was going to go to work instead, but with three children under the age of four I'm not sure it's the best thing, as I don't think my husband will be able I deal with our children, he can hardly get around and I think the tablets will tire him out. Where do we stand?

Dear Maximoo1978
Thank you for your posting on the forum. It can be a difficult time when someone is first diagnosed with arthritis and you have to think about the issues this raises such as treatment and your work situation. The idea behind the medication is to help the condition and hopefully tackle the causes of the inflammation and change the way the condition progresses and its purpose is to prevent the arthritis from getting worse. There is information on psoriatic arthritis including treatments on the link for the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Association (PAPAA) which is a charity specifically for people with psoriatic arthritis. They have information on their website for those who have just been diagnosed and also about treatments for the condition. You can access their website on http://www.papaa.org/

You have asked where do you stand and I am unsure if you mean regarding the medication your husband will receive and it may be helpful to speak to your husband’s rheumatologist or rheumatology nurse about your concerns regarding the impact of his medication. Being diagnosed with a condition like arthritis can mean looking at what is the best course of action for your family. You have spoken of whether it is best for you or your husband to work. It may help to look at our booklet called Working with arthritis that speaks of your options when working with this condition. You can access this on the link http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Listedbytype/Booklets/main_content/Workingbooklet2013.pdf
I would also encourage you to call us here on the helpline so that you can talk things through with one of our helpline team. The contact details for the helpline are 0808 800 4050 (10am – 4pm weekdays). I hope this information is helpful.
Best Wishes
