I have OA in fingers and thumb joints. I work on a keyboard all day which I don't think helps. When I get home from work I make a nice cup of tea and then sit with my hands round the mug! I find heat really helps as the pain is like toothache really deep within the thumb joints. Sorry, no advice re massage, not tried that.

Thanks for reply Suzanne.
I have the pain all day, well like a dull ache during the day and now at this time it's excruciating!0 -
Paraffin Wax treatment can help greatly. This can be done at home or in a salon.

Thanks Elna, I'll look into that0

I have massages from time to time but I find they upset rather than help my hands - my therapist knows to go easy because hands are generally skinny things but even so . . . . . it's ouchy.
If my hands are playing up I find soaking them in warm water helps, gently flexing my fingers, or resting them on a towel-wrapped hot water bottle can be beneificial. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hello tinydancer and if we haven't met before welcome
I have OA in my hand amongst other places..I have injections in them and they are brilliant...I have had injection everywhere but dont get the same pain relief has I do in my hands..they last around 6 months so they are worth you asking about.
Please let us know how you get on xxLove

Hi,
I find that juniper oil diluted in almond oil is a great massage oil for arthritis. It gets me through winter!!
I am not sure whether it is the heat and rubbing of the joint that helps distribute the swelling and therefore eases pain or if its a thing in the juniper oil as I read in one of my herbal books that juniper oil is good for arthritis.
but we all know too well that sometimes you can't bare to touch the painful area don't we? or our hands hurt too much to massage!!
Hope this helps
