Pins and Needles

I've been taking prednisolone for about 4 months ish now, and it seems to have the aches and pains under some sort of control. However, every night when I finally sit down, or when I go to bed, my hands and feet absolutely throb (this is the one time of day when the meds don't see m to make any difference!). But I'm now getting intense pins and need type sensations in my toes and feet; and it regularly feels like having pins stuck right in deep between my toes! Should I be worried, or is this yet another symptom? Going to see consultant in couple of weeks, when he might reduce the dose of steroid and put me on hydr....... (Can't remember the rest and too lazy to get up and find the piece of paper it's scribbled on!)

    Hi,

If you haven't already I'd have a chat with ure gp about these symptoms!! If they're aware already it might be worth giving the helpline a call. I've heard they're very good & they may be able to help. The number is at the top of the page.

    I'm sorry I couldn't help. Take care.x

I think I'd have a chat with the GP too. Something doesn't sound quite right. It might be a simple matter of lowering the pred but that should always be undertaken under medical supervision. Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks for your comments - haven't seen my gp about arthritis since she referred me to a consultant - luckily I have an appointment with him on 31 August, but have emailed him in the meantime; hopefully he'll get back to me!! Will let you know what he says!

Been to see consultant today - he says its the nerve endings; doesn't want to go down the injection route yet. He's kept the medication the same, with the addition of cocodamol when needed. I'm quite happy with that - think I get a bit anxious when a 'new' symptom appears - ie, is it to do with Arther or is it something else?! I'm happy with that, and hoping that this keeps everything at bay for a loooooooonnnnnngggggg time! I know I'm lucky compared to many of you, so far, and I take my hat off to you for the way you cope!

Sharon, I'm so sorry. I asked you to let us know how you got on the utterly failed to reply when you did - twice   In my defence I've had a bit going on in my own life but, even so.

Despite things staying more or less the same for you I'm sure it was the right thing to do to contact your GP. Some decisions are best taken by those in the know and better safe than sorry.

By the way, you're not 'lucky' - you have arthritis  but I know what you mean. Lots of things can make it easier though, not just fewer years and joints and less pain but also circumstances and family and friends. I hope you're very lucky with those :)

Bless you Sticky, I know you have other stuff on! We all read the forums but don't always have time to contribute eh?! I am very lucky with my family, friends, work etc - 1st grandchild due at Xmas, but too aware that enjoyment of all of them can be impaired! I keep my fingers crossed that I may be lucky and not get any worse!

Whatever happens you're going to have a ball with the grandchild. Just concentrate on what you can do and enjoy it to the full. Forget about what you can't. I have a - just - 4 yr old one and a nearly 7 yr old one. They both live a long way away but time spent with them is pure joy.
