Just remembered what the rhuemmy said today at my appoint and thought I would share. I now have to take folic acid 6 days a week, as opposed to the one day which I have taken it up to now. The reason for this she told me, was that folic acid was thought to increase the risk of prostrate cancer in men. The experts have now agreed that is now not the case, and everyone should now be taking it 6 days.

    hi ELAINE

been on 6 5mg a week for years , stopped the problems I was having with raised liver ALT & also allowed my hair to thicken up again & not having any side effects from MTX now

think the main reason was consultants think it will make MTX less effective but we can have a lot higher level of MTX with it

Hm. Interesting but a bit odd.

Even if it does increase the risk of prostate cancer in men, that would be no reason not to have given the higher dosage to the 50% of humanity who lack a prostate gland.

But I've been perfectly OK for about 13 years on two tabs of F.A. weekly. I know it isn't, strictly speaking, a med but, even so, why take what isn't needed?

Having said that, if 6 tabs weekly are required I'm sure 6 tabs weekly should be taken.
