HOMEOPATHY

Well.....I've been and gone and done it.
I've got an appoint for Wed at noon with a Homeopath.
I used to go to her when the children were little....they are 33 and 35 now. I'm so fed up with these eyes that wont clear. They are getting worse. I've decided to go back and see her.
I'm at the stage where I cant drive far now because they are running so much...this has been going on for 3 years now. Peter had to take me to my Arthritis Care meeting tonight and that's only 12 miles there and 12 miles back
I know there is no cure for arthritis.....we all do.,.....but I would happily try taking some homeopathic med rather than stuff myself with pain dullers, anti inflammatories etc/

I'll be straight with you, Hileena - I don't believe in it. But I can relate to the desperation that drives you there. The constant eye-watering must be not just annoying but so destructive of any simple task. Is there nothing at all that the docs can do? Do any of the meds make it worse? I am hoping against hope that this will help you.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I did the homoepath thing too before I knew I had arthritis. I'm sure it works well for the generally healthy (the royal family are fans I believe) but for specific things well, my jury isn't even present, let alone out.
Have you been assessed for macular degeneration, Hileena? I know that comes in two forms, wet and dry; my Ma had the wet one and took tablets that the doc prescirbed - they made a positive difference. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi SW and DD
The constant eye watering is dreadful.....tears streaming down my cheeks. Enough to make people stop and say "are you OK?" because they think I'm crying.
The GP sent me to the eye dept at the hospital......
Some of you will remember the consultant that I said needed a personality transplant That's him !!!
He just keeps giving me the same nose spray even though I say its not working. The last time I saw a different doc {consultant??} and he looked at the notes and said if that's what it is the nose spray is the best thing for it :x As far as the GP is concerned that is a second opinion.
As far as believing in it is concerned....if it helps {placebo or not} that's great. I don't expect much help with the arthritis to be honest but anything is worth a try. I'm really depressed {down} most days because of my eyes.....the arthritis/spinal pain/possible 2nd THR coming up....I can cope with.
DD ....My mam has glaucoma and mac degeneration and I have to have an eye test every year rather than the normal 2 years and I'm tested for both then.
Well....we'll see what Wed brings

I sincerely hope that it will be of some help Hileena. Never know till you try, right? xToots x0

Thanks Toots....you are right......never know until you try.
It wont do any harm even if it doesn't do any good
By the way I'll be asking for pocket duties for then please.
I know its not my usual ortho appointment or day operation but I still need your support

Hi Hileena,
Will pop into your pocket at the appointed time.
As for homeopoathy- I don't go there because I worry about drug interactions, and my son who's a doctor says that homeopathy drugs aren't regulated/licensed so you can't be sure of the strength or purity of what you're taking. Maybe it's worth speaking to your docs before adding anything else in to the pot?

When I went to this homeopath before I was told not to take any other meds.
She left me on my epilepsy ones naturally....I was well controlled.
I worry about drug interractions having been a nurse at one time.
In particular ones that are contraindicated with my epilepsy ones.
I refuse to take them...if I think there is a chance they MIGHT cause any problems....I've been controlled for 33 years now.
Thanks for the pocket duties.

Hi Everyone
Thanks for all your support.......I'll have big pockets tomorrow

I still hope that one day a natural treatment will be found for arthritis.
I did use a homeopathy remedy a few years ago and got told off by my doc. To be honest I didn't even think i might have a reaction to other meds I was taking; it was something I just never considered. While I was taking it I came off steroids and it 'seemed' to keep away the swelling. But I stopped taking it when my doc moaned. So whether it was a fluke or not I guess I'll never know.... but when the pessimistic folk at the hospital say my current last resort (in their words) treatment is deemed that is does not work homeopathy is the route I will try next (when I am not taking anything else of course).
Do let us know how you get on hope all goes well for you.
Best wishes

Thanks Charleeh
I'll post sometime tomorrow....not sure when I'll get back then I am out from 6.30pm until about 10.00pm
If it helps my eyes that would be great....I can manage my arthritis better than my eyes at the minute.
OK...so I'll have to buy my own tablets but if it works at all it might be worth it,

That makes at least 4 of us peeking out of your pocket - I will be there too

I don't think I knew about the regular eye checks but if you have told me before then I apologise for forgetting. :oops
I hope that your appointment went well and that she (or he) thinks that they can offer you something to help - and that if you try it that it does. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi
Well I spent 1 and three quarter hours with her {April}
She did a massive history.
She's starting with my eyes which are bothering me more than anything else. I have to stop the car and if you're on a dual carriageway that's not always possible.
After the consultation she said she had a couple of remedies in mind but wanted to be sure they didn't clash with anything else I was taking. She said she had some free time this afternoon, would look it all up and then post me the remedies. So we'll see how things go.
One thing at a time.....I doubt if homeopathy {or anything else for that matter} will really help arthritis.......you cant change the shape of your bones .....but she might be able to give me some pain relief
Also my BP she'll check that out {I take meds for that} but at the moment its my eyes.
One of the things she asked me to do was GIVE UP COFFEE....anyone that knows me knows that I'm a real coffeeholic Apparently it interferes with the remedies and if they don't work she'll not know whether its the coffee or that I need a different remedy Bought some decaf on the way home.
One last thing.....she said I should be on Vit D because of my anti epileptic meds, the fact that I've got osteopenia, and that I have a letter from 5 years back when I had a dexa scan advising it. So I'm supposed to go to the GP and tell her this. She's going love it if she asks who said that and I say a homeopath
DD do you remember the AC {is that right} that we took once a week...dreadful stuff we both hated it. I think that was about the time I had that scan but then changed GP's and she said I didn't need those and lifestyle changes would be enough
Well...going off line shortly

I think Vit D helps with calcium absorption so that would make sense though I'd always check with my GP first.
I might have some bad news here - did she ask you to give up caffeine or coffee? If it was coffee itself I doubt decaff would be acceptable.
I do hope it all helps though. I've been on some weird diets for arthritis in my time and it's bad enough being on them without the added annoyance of finding they don't help.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

HI SW
She did ask me to give up coffee but went on to say that that there were a lot of decent decaf ones on the market now so from that I assume its caffeine because she know I drink a lot of coffee.
Its not a diet....that's the only thing that she has asked.
My diet is Slimming World which is a healthy eating plan rather than a diet and I've been on that for years and am quite happy eating like that.
This isn't for my arthritis its for my eyes......they are so bad and its been going on for almost 3 years now.
As for the Vit D/Calcium......I think I said in my post that she said I should go to the GP and show her the letter I had a while back from the osteoporosis nurse and suggest Vit D and Calcium. I wouldn't take any meds without checking with my GP
Hope this clears things up a bit

Quite a few surgeons in America tell people to take it before and after an op.
Don't forget Aspirin come from trees..there are so many more just read up on them on the net...my late mum was due to have her gallbladder removed till she saw an Homeopathic consultant..its well worth a try..but you must find one with good credentials..Love

I've been there and done that with homeopathy (before I knew I had arthritis and the homeopathist didn't recognise it either which doesn't say much, does it? ) but it had one positive effect - it made her a few quid richer.
There's nowt wrong with natural meds and yes, many of our standard ones have their roots therein; arnica does nothing for me but witch hazel works like a dream. We all vary so much but if it works for some then it works and that's good. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hileena I'm surprised the homeopath suggested decaff coffee as it's not the caffeine that's the problem(otherwise you'd have to give up tea as well), but perhaps the decaff process takes out the substances that act as an antidote to the remedies. Did she also mention avoiding mint( in toothpastes for instance)
It's interesting that the mainstream medical view is that homeopathy can't and doesn't work because of the extreme dilution factors, but yet they worry about possible drug interaction with the non-existent ingredients!
Vit D does help with calcium absorption, and if you are lacking it then you won't be making best use of either supplementary (which may not be necessary) or dietary calcium. I was found to be very deficient and so started taking Vit D(OTC with GP's consent as I didn't need the calcium and it was also way way cheaper) which had the very pleasing result of quickly improving the muscle pain and weakness I had been experiencing on top of the arthritis joint pain.0 -
Hi again, Hileena,
Thanks for updating this thread, and I hope the recommendations will bring your poor eyes some relief
Spot on about Vit. D in terms of assisting calcium absorption. I have on repeat prescription calcium plus vit. D. Here's NHS info on Calcichew D3 (there's 'Calcichew D3 Forte' too): http://www.nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineOverview.aspx?medicine=Calcichew D3
Best wishes,

Hi Phee
Thanks for the link.
Daffy.....it is the caffeine that is the problem.....She didn't say I had to give up tea because she knows that I don't like tea. As for Coke {which has caffeine in it} once every 2 weeks maybe!!!!!
Yes I was told about toothpaste and other foods but not to give them up.....just to leave a certain gap between using/eating them and taking a remedy

Gosh Hileena
That sounded a thorough assessment
I know too well how much coffee you drink I agree moving to decaffeinated has to help a lot - I have some decaf here for afternoons and decaf tea too. Like you cola is a rarity, but I think it's also in bananas :? . I remember it from my nuclear stress test
I do hope she can help with your eyes - I know it's been really awful for you and has limited activities you do so if she can that would be great.
Like Barbara I took arnica many times in the past following surgery, (always checking with doc first of course like you), and other homeopathic remedies for other issues.
Good luck and do let us know how you get on
Love

That's interesting about the coffee/caffeine Hileena, it looks as if things have changed since I first encountered homeopathic remedies( over 35 years ago now), so I'd better go and update myself - not least because I rarely drink coffee but do drink tea!
I do hope you see some improvement in your eyes, it does sound miserable, and frustrating, for you.0
