Pain In The Backside

Hi I just wanted a bit of advise on a problem I've had for a while now but not really took much notice of it before as I just took it as another normal ache and pain that I experience now and then.I have been experiencing pain at the top of my right leg more so the buttock area after sitting for a while.I do quite a bit of exercise and try to have a walk everyday as this sometimes helps my cramps. It is now getting too a point where I am struggling to be able to even sit down for very long,I try to stay on my feet as much as possible to keep the weight off it as I think it gets worse because of the weight and pressure on it after sitting for a while. In the evenings I am having to lay on the sofa with my feet up to take the pressure off it.It only seems to effect mostly my right side I've not really noticed it effecting the left side as of yet.I am at the hospital on Thursday which I was gonna mention at the same time.Maybe this is another problem that has arisen due to lack of Meth,I am really struggling with getting comfy any suggestions would be grateful as I really don't wanna stand up all day and night or be laying down as this seems the only thing that eases it.

Hi, I can relate to this completely, it's one of my biggest problems. I am as yet undiagnosed, but my GP suspects ankylosing spondylitis as it is mainly my spine and sacroiliac joints which are bad. Sitting down for any length of time is excruciating! The pain in the buttock area ruins any chance of relaxation for me; I drive my kids mad by fidgeting constantly because I cannot find a comfy position. As you say the only position which works is lying down, but that then causes me immense pain on getting up again! It's a trade off, always a trade off.
I find sitting on hard chairs worse than soft, and a wooden bench in a pub garden is out of the question. I have yet to find a solution apart from, as many suggested to me on here a while ago, bringing a cushion everywhere with me so I can find a small piece of comfort for 5 minutes.
I sympathise.

The doc on Thursday sounds your best bet for dealing with this. Not long to go now.
Buttock pain can arise from arthritis in the hip but I think mine was just the same whether walking or sitting. It might be worth checking out the chair you normally sit on. I find a soft chair increases any pain whereas a supportive one helps. I see ouchpotato finds the opposite but her problem lies in her back whereas mine was my hip(s). All the more reason to raise it with the doc.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Thankyou I was just hoping I was not the only one it has been going on for quite sometime now and like you said it is really excruciating and just need to walk about.I am trying to get work desperately so hoping I can get something that doesn't require a lot of sitting down.0

My sacro-iliacs have hurt for years, whether I stand, sit or lie it makes no difference. Anything that causes us to alter the way we move because one or two joints which are affected by arthritis will therefore put others out of kilter and then they hurt. I reckon it's similar to a domino-effect. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi. I am glad i found this thread its been happening to me to.
mine is my left side mainly & when you want to change position it really hurts it is not all the time but when plays up it hurts like mad.
I use my gel cushion to sit on on top off the bed or chair it gives some relief for a little while keep smiling destiny0 -
I have just got back from Rhuematology,I have been given a steroid injection and an increase in my Hydroxy rather than the increase with my Meth to see if this will help things improve.Regarding my pain in the back of my leg/buttocks area the nurse thinks it is because I have a back strain even though I haven't noticed this too much really, maybe it's been there but not caused me too much trouble as of yet.I am unsure if that is why or not but she feels once I get my flare under control this should improve. It seems my flare could also be a result of my bad case of Tonsilitis I got while on holiday at the beginning of Aug and set it off even though I was experiencing some problems before my illness maybe it just made it worse as sometimes infections can cause flare-ups to arise.Hopefully now things will soon start to improve.0
