Hi
Saw my GP today at 08.30
She is such a lovely lady thanked me for the card I had sent her regarding all her help getting me through my ill health retirement stuff
I'd forgotten I'd sent her a card
Sorted out all my meds got rid of some I didn't need any more
Discussed my meto ject and how long they wanted monthly bloods which is a month longer than my rheumy dept require both in different health care trusts
Sorted me out with appointment to see their Health advisor regarding weight loss also information on a tablet for weight loss a fat tablet she called it
Even discussed how my daughter was getting on and how worried she was last time she saw her
A very productive appointment I wish all GPs were so caring we have a great team of doctors and receptionists where nothing is too much trouble
How does others feel about their GP practice?

hi there
Yes, we have what I call the old type family doctor. She is brilliant. Much the same as yours, nothing is to much trouble. She rings my hubby just to see how he is, that's the type of doctor she is. And the receptionist are lovely to. Occasionally we may have a bleep but more than not they are really good.
I think you and me are in the minority though. I hear some really bad stories of gp's.Karen xx0 -
Ah Maria
That is exactly the kind of appointment I like
Well-done both of you - communication is two-way

Your GP sounds wonderful, Maria.
My GP is OK (there is only one available at the moment), but I do feel that I need to research whatever I'm going to ask about and be quite assertive. Maybe that's just me! I often write my concerns down and just hand it to him, then he reads it through and we discuss it. It seems to work and I can get my thoughts in order, instead of rambling. He did ask me at one point, "What do you want me to do?". I don't know whether that says more about me than him!
We do have a telephone consultation in operation. You can arrange for the GP to phone you during the day, if you can't get an appointment and you really need to speak to somebody.
You can only discuss one problem a session - I'm going this afternoon to discuss my IBS/aches and pains. I went last week about my trigger thumb, but knew I would have to make a separate appointment to ask about the IBS. I don't know how common this is. To be charitable, the appointment is only 10 minutes.
Something which does bug me a little is there is no real overall review of your medical situation. I see the nurse every six months for a 'medication review', but that consists of checking my blood pressure and renewing my prescription. There is no conversation along the lines of "You've got this, this and this. So, how is everything?". I honestly don't know if GPs are supposed to do this, or not.
Sorry - got a bit carried away there!

My GP is very good, I suppose the practice is too and yes, there are the occasional SNAFUs as there will be with any organisation. Me and 'im indoors were there yesterday doing part two of the Hypertension Monitoring clinic, we had a pleasant nurse who talked things through and answered questions. I've found that things go better if I take some responsibility rather than sitting back and waiting for the things I want done to be remembered. I am one of many, many faces that my surgery sees each day - how the hell are they supposed to remember my particular details? I may be special to me but that's the end of it. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

That's terrific Maria that's what I call a good practice. I have a very good GP that looks after me well sees me every 4 to 6 weeks depending how I am and nothing is a bother to him, even manage to have a laugh, on the other hand there are a few receptionists that need to take lessons on how to turn up the corner of their mouths, some of them haven't smiled since they have had the hives, oh well it takes all kinds I suppose, on the whole it is quite a good practice..................Marie xx
PS I will be in your pocket on Saturday, just seen post, you go girl. xSmile a while and while you smile
smile another smile and soon there
will be miles and miles of smiles
just because you smiled I wish your
day is full of Smiles0 -

Hi Maria, Like you I have a fantastic G.P surgery and I have a fantastic G.P who if I can't get in to see her if I'm having a bad day or flare up I can call the surgery and arrange a phone consultation with her. I'm so pleased I have a G.P like her. And I've been going to that surgery since I was 16yrs old so they know me well, a couple of the staff there now are old friends from school so they know all about my health which helps!0
