My new weight loss regime

I've piled on the pounds this year and a few weeks ago, I decided to do something about it. I've been making healthier eating choices but the scales have been moving painfully slowly. However, since starting cimzia, I have been regularly vomiting, thus ensuring a quicker weight loss and a small appetite.

I'd planned to be naughty tonight and have a take away in front of the TV with friends. Instead, I will by lying on the sofa in my PJs (alone!) and wailing that I feel sick and have a headache. I might try to nibble some toast in front of Strictly but it's not the same as chow mein and a nice glass of red.

"This too shall pass" is what I am telling myself in terms of the side effects but if it could continue to supress my appetite, that would be great. Oh yes and I should probably hope for controlled disease activity as well as weight loss!

    Hi Starburst
I am sorry to hear that your Cimzia is making you feel poorly and you are missing going out. I hope that Strictly can distract you from feeling yuk.
Medication induced weight loss can be a `bonus` , but the feeling poorly side effect is not nice. I started losing weight last year when I had to up my medication and found Tramadol made me feel yuk and have no appetite. I eventually changed the Tramadol for Morphine but i tried to keep a check on my eating and have lost 3 and half stone since last October. One of my GP`s saw me last week for the first time in a while and said weight loss suited me?!! :?
I hope that the side effects of the Cimzia settle for you soon xx
    Enjoy Strictly xx

    Oh Soph :(

What a shame! All your best plans to loose weight and get healthy and you loose it anyway due to meds

I really do hope that your body adjust quickly to the cimzia and it helps you loads. If not maybe the medical profession might have some ideas to help a bit??

    Take care now

    Love

That's a rubbish method of losing weight, Sophie, even if it does work. I'm sorry the cimzia is doing stuff other than what it's supposed to do and I just hope it also does what it is supposed to do. Well done for persevering and making light of the side-effects. Toast does have its merits and I'm sure there'll be other occasions for the chow mein and red. Meanwhile (((())))

Not the nicest way to loose weight, but every cloud has a silver lining....
When my RA started 20 years ago I luckily lost over 5 stone in 6 months and that was definately my silver lining..
Hope the Cimzia unwanted side effects end soon!

Hello all, thank you for the good wishes. My sickness has stopped but I have a pounding headache. I'm having my next 2 injections tomorrow and to be honest, I'm a bit apprehensive. I'm doing a lot of lying down at the moment, so my joints are well rested if nothing else!

    Hi Starburst,
What has your rheumatology specialist said about your horrible side effects?
How often do you have your injections?

Thanks for checking in on me. I'm finally feeling a little brighter today and hungry again! I was sick but I think it was because I guzzled water too quickly.

The healthcare at home nurse noted my symptoms, she'll pass it on to their pharmacist who apparently reports it back to the cimzia people. The injections were fine so I'm on my own for my next dose. I have them fortnightly. Next time is 2 injections but then I'll be on the maintenance dose of 1 injection fortnightly.

I left a message for the rheumy nurses to call me back but I haven't heard from them yet. I've got physio and OT tomorrow as well as needing to collect MTX injections, leflunomide tablets, needles and a new box - so I might as well pop in and see the nurse while I'm on my travels! I am on first name terms with the lady who works on the front desk.

Hi, losing weight is a balancing act which has many variables. For instance exercise is key so if your not able or tired you have to cut back a litlle.and .....if you exercise a lot you can eat a little more. it sounds simple eh. Er but no.....then depends what your eating. Also crash dieting is a no no. I found that Weightwatchers were pretty good and two years ago I lost 21lb with their advice / plans. The trouble is I put most of it back on slowly. Like you said too many nice meals and that vino tinto ! At the moment I am trying to get back in to it as I find that it helps with the joints and aids flexibility when you are a tad slimmer. Hope things are going ok otherwise and the meds are working. Give me a shout if I can help in any way. Right lettuce leaf for breakfast ? lol

These are powerful meds and they can do mighty powerful things to us in addition to tackling the arthritis. You poor girl, I hope that things begin to ease soon - I once lost three stones by staying in bed and eating nothing but Hula Hoops, Kelly's Cornish ice cream and drinking full-fat coke. I was between meds and it was the flare from hell. Arthritis can punish us in more ways than mere joint pain. DD
