I was working my way through my Sunday paper when a quote from Epictetus caught my eye; he was a Greek philsopher (circa 55 - 135 AD) who falls into the Stoic school of philosophy (we all need to be part of that, yes?) It goes as follows:

'If you think you have free rein over things that are naturally beyond your control, or if you attempt to adopt the affairs of others as your own, your pursuits will be thwarted and you will become a frustrated, anxious and fault-finding person.'

Hmmmmm. Food for thought indeed. I'm partial to the thoughts of Marcus Aurelius but I am also going to dig a little deeper into the thoughts of Epictetus because that one appeals to me for its home truth. People don't change as such, it's their societies that shift and alter around them. DD

    Hi DD
Hmmm interesting quote... Quite poignant for those of us struggling to come to terms with our `lot`. And also may help us to do so.
I will ponder further on this...

Food for thought, DD. I believe it was Epictetus who said 'It's not what happens to you but how you react to it that matters'. Amen to that
