Some hope after today's appt

Well fingers crossed I may be getting somewhere, saw a different rheumy today after my GP asked for a second opinion. he seemed a bit surprised that my medication hadn't been addressed before now. he wants to start me on something called solsomazaoine ??L I think it sounded like that anyway. He agrees that we need to adress the inflamation rather than keep operating, had the usual quota of blod tests and he has requested all the reports on my previous mri scans and X-rays . I hope he prescribes something next week so I can start having some sort of life again. has anyone heard of this tablet and do you know if it works ???? Xxx

Hi Kate
Was it this drug?
http://www.patient.co.uk/medicine/sulfasalazine
So pleased to hear that you are being looked after properly now.
I do not have RA so have never been prescribed this drug.

I was put onto sulphasalazine as my first med back in 2002. It didn't help the inflammation at all but I have a friend who also has the same kind of arthritis as me and his is controlled by sulph alone. Let's hope you end up like him not me! I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Kate
Glad to hear you're making some progress with your new rheumy.
My doc started me on Sulfasalzine 3 weeks ago, so I'm new to this too. This drug has to be built up in your system, so you're likely to find that you will start on one tablet per day for a week, then onto one morning and evening for a week, next week 3 tabs etc. You must have regular blood tests done to make sure these meds aren't messing with you in a bad way, so make sure you've got that planned whether it be with rheumy or your gp. I've been fine with taking them, although when I up my dose I feel a bit flu-like. I'm now on 3 tablets per day with my next increase due Thursday. I'll be honest, the last couple of days I've felt pretty crappy with a good dose of nausea too, but it's manageable and doesn't mean you'll feel like that.
From what I can gather, there is no quick fix - the official word on this drug is that you probably won't feel any benefit until at least 12 weeks in - and even then it may take further months to figure if it'll work or not. Trial and error apparently.
Hope this helps, good luck! xToots x0 -
