My daughter has only recently been diagnosed with the above (cant even pronounce it lol) she has come down with a cold and its knocked her sideways, weak and really tired (it is only a cold and nothing worse) is this what happens with a regular illness. She couldn't even get out the bath.

Would love to hear from any parents of teens with this form of arthritis.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have RA (and OA) and I'm not too familiar with spondyloarthropathy but I believe that, like RA, it's one of the auto-immune forms of arthritis. These can all cause fatigue with or without colds, flu or any other debilitating illness. With them, however, they are more likely to do so though being unable to get out of the bath would seem quite extreme unless pain is a contributory factor.

If your daughter has been prescribed a disease modfying drug such as methotrexate, thesee too can sometimes cause fatigue.

We all worry about our children. Might it help to have a word with our Helpline people? Their number is at the top of the page. We used to have a very helpful mother, MumV, who has a daughter with JIA now at university but she's not been around for a while.

Ah, it used to be 'only a cold' but now it's more than that. :( Your poor girl, I can imagine that she is feeling very weak and wrung out, as Sticky said bugs and infections can knock us sideways (and they very often do). She needs plenty of rest, if she is on medication for the axial spondy then be wary about any cold remedies that you may usually employ. I hope she feels better soon. DD

    Thanks once again.

She was tonnes better today, was even up for hydrotherapy.

Still weak but certainly better, think a complete day of rest helped greatly.

Any form of inflammatory arthritis can be very tiring when it's active so yes, a day's rest will have done her some good. Don't be surprised if she suddenly flags again after resuming her normal activities - sometimes we are rendered as weak as kittens for a while and that ain't fun. I hope she continues to improve. DD
