Just wondered what everyone's thoughts are on natural anti imflammatories?
I've read that ginger, turmeric and glucosamine chondroitin are good.
Also vitamins c,d and k are anti imflammatories.

Just try them! They are tasty, too0

They can help but it depends on how raised your markers are. With us auto-immuners we would need to consume prodigious amounts to gain any benefit. Glucosmaine (with or without chondroitin) is an 'oiler' so not suitable for those with an auto-immune. I remember (when I didn't know what was wrong with me) trying glucosamine for six months - and my left knee just got fatter and fatter. If it's OA then they may help. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

If you're thinking of the natural products, I agree with caliban. Go for it. As my old Mum used to say, if it does you no good it'll do you no harm. If you're thinking of lots of pills though I'd advise caution especially if you take 'proper' meds with which they could interact. The best natural anti-inflammatory foods all go with a healthy diet - fruit and veg, fish and meat, and keep processed foods and sugar to a minumum. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I was told by my nurse not to take chondroitin if you are on ant tnfs. It's ground up shells, or something, so can contain nasty bacteria.0

Sugar should more or less vanish from our shopping lists. No benefits, lot's of negatives. And yes, unfortunately a lot of people seem to be possessed with processed food. Simply can't understand why?0

Availability, Caliban. And probably advertising too. And they taste nice!0

Hi
How about chillies? I was prescribed capsicum cream for my achey knees a long time ago and although it didn't get rid of the pain it certainly warmed up my joints
Only warm heat helps any cold compress aggravates me but we are all different and some say it works for others it does nothing

Don't forget resveratrol in grapes...0
-
What's that boomer? X0

Resveratrol is an antioxidant found in red grapes (and therefore....red wine Yum!!) and A few other plants. It's touted to have a few health benefits including being anti-inflammatory. Like all the other herbals though, there is a lack of concrete evidence.

Resveratrol? As in "polyphenol"?0

Little correction, Chocoholic: Boomer and I are talking about FERMENTED grapes! That makes all the difference. It's the fermenting that makes them ache-dulling. The grapes are only for beauty.0

Love it! X0
