I'm sorry I'm on to have a bit of a moan.

My eyes....that I have been going to the hospital {3 years now}for are no better.

The main problem is excessive tears.....they are sore/gritty etc but its the excessive tears that really get me down.
They constantly stream...indoors/outdoors/using the computer/not using the computer.......Can't find any reason.
What I do know is they are making me very depressed {not in the clinical sense but very down}
Cant put make up on my eyes, cant keep any make up on my face ...as soon as its on I'm wiping my eyes/cheeks and off it comes.
Even without makeup they are still the same.
My arthritis and scoliosis I can cope with.....I know they are now curable but I can manage them
My eyes....there doesn't seem to be a thing I can do about these tears!!!! :(
End of moan
Thanks if you have read this far
Love
Hileena

    First things first (((((( ))))))

It doesn't surprise me that it's getting you down. I have dry eyes & get blisters on the white part of my eyeball, it's painful & unpleasant!!

Have you discussed ure eyes with ure Rheumy? Its just mine has been associated with auto immune problems, It's just a thought.

Is there any way it could be allergy based??

I'm hopeless, I'm not helping at all so have some more of these

I am so sorry, this must be so difficult. I have no exoerience of this so lack true understanding but I can hear the frustration in your words. I read something earlier today about the wrong sort of tears being produced by those with eye troubles, you would think that the tears would help keep the eyes moisturised but these ones don't. :( That doesn't help much, does it? Brace yourself: ((((())))) DD

Hileena, I can imagine how this must get you down. You cope with so much and I wish you could find an answer. I agree with the others in trying to get across how hard you are finding it to deal with.

Have you had your thyroid tested? That can cause this symptom. Take care and do something nice this afternoon.

    Hi Everyone...
    Thanks for your messages
    Any/all suggestions are welcome.

Yes I've read about the wrong kind of tears somewhere recently???

    My next appointment is January {hospital}
A couple of times I have seen other docs there but they just look at his notes and go from there. All he does is give me a nasal spray which doesn't help

No...I haven't had my thyroid tested.....thanks....that's something to think about when I go to the GP or whoever??

Oh Debbie.....that must be awful.......then other thing is I don't have a rheumy LOL I have OA and scoliosis.....not the auto immune type

As for allergy......it happens anywhere anytime....no rhyme or reason to it.
Consultant {Mr Nasty  } says it is blocked nasal passages and it is a chronic disease. I know all of our other diseases are but somehow I can find ways around them but not this eye business especially when people stop you and ask are you OK {think I'm crying} :(

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions
    Love

Right, the article I was referring to was in today's Mail on Sunday, it's entitled 'Oh, why are my blinking eyes so sore and watery?' Apparently the moisturising quality of our tears declines as we age (sorry, ), our blinking rates matter (and the quality of the blinks), winter aggravates matters (surprise, surprise) as does a night on the tiles (Hileena, you are going to have to stop those wild evenings) and don't waste money on eye drops. I wish I could do the blue stuff but I lack the necessary conmputery skills. It must be on the interweb, and you probably know all this stuff anyway but just in case . . . . . .

Here comes a daft idea - would wearing sunglasses help? The quality of light would be dulled, it would stop dust and moulds getting into your eyes and you could become the femme fatale that lurks within. DD

So sorry Hileena that your eyes are so bad. It's one of those areas that is so rich in nerve fibers that when constantly irritated, it can't help but constantly preoccupy, as you are well aware. I have just very minor chronic eye irritation and that drives me nuts; I can just imagine yours is driving you to distraction and never having a break is terrible.

I do have a friend with a deformation in her sinus/tear duct area that had problems due to the tear duct not draining properly to the sinus. She had something like a stent installed which opened up the duct to the sinus allowing everything to drain as would have normally. I think she had it in for about 4-6 weeks. It was a day procedure and the stent was held in by a couple of sutures. It was annoying while the stent was in place but it worked for her.

I'm wondering if this would work for you? I'm sorry if you've said and I've forgotten, but I wonder if you've seen a specialist? Opthomologist or sinus spec? It's such a shame that you have to live in such distress with this problem in our age of amazing medical procedures. I can't help but think a clever doctor somewhere would be able to help you?

Anyway, sending you (((()))) (and extra tissue)

    xxAnna

    Omg I'm an idiot!!
I forget all arthur isn't autoimmune, my brain leaks out of my ears during sleep I think ;) ( )

My biannual eye exam was the first place to pick up I had arthritis, it was because my tear ducts are oval shaped ... Odd eh?

Hileena I really do wonder if it's worth asking for a second opinion? Our eyes aren't to be trifled with after all also with how badly it's impacting your mood :( With ure other health issues its just not on!!

I've no advice, Hileena, but I have a deal of sympathy. It must be so wearying and perpetually annoying. It's so unlike you to complain so I know things aren't good. Here, have a few of my rare ones (((())))

    Hi DD
Thanks for the article ...I'll try to find it online.
You are an idiot :lol::lol: Would you believe I don't have nights on the tiles....not because I'm a prude......I'm not!!!!!!!!
Because my epilepsy started when I was 18 months old.....and when it got to the stage where I could drink.....I didn't bother starting...it was easier than trying to work out how much I could drink. My epilepsy wasn't controlled then.....so now.....I don't like the taste
I don't waste money on eye drops....the GP gave me some recently so whether they do any good or not at least I'm not paying for them
Blue stuff? Interweb? Not a clue :)
I wish I could wear sun glasses or had the courage to wear them in this weather. I need reading glasses but not distance ones. Driving home this morning there was a little bit of sunshine so I put my sun glasses on {always in the car for low sun} It was great and they are cheapies.
I must try to pluck up the courage to wear them a bit more often.....but feel silly in this weather
    Thanks for the help

    Hi Anna
I must mention that to the opthomologist in January....Yes I do see one and have been seeing him for 3 years and he just keeps giving me the same nose spray which doesn't do any good.
    Thanks for the tissue
A couple of times in that 3 years I've seen other docs when he hasn't been there but they just look at his notes and go from there and do much the same thing....What I need is a completely different one...poss in a different hospital

I like it......your brain leaks out of your ears
Oval shaped tear ducts?.....haven't come across that one
I've just said to Anna {I think} that what I need is a completely different one...maybe in a different hospital??
I have seen a couple of others when he hasn't been around but they look at his notes and just take it from there
I'm seeing the consultant in the pain clinic next week....he might have some idea how to go about it

Hello Hileena. A friend of mine had a similar problem and her gp eventually narrowed it down to an allergic reaction to some tablets she was taking. Not sure that's much help to you but might be a possibility worth checking out. Have you spoken to your local pharmacist? He/she might come up with a suggestion. Hope it eases for you soon.

Heleena I suffered with excessive tears for a while - maybe for a year or so when in my early forties. It got to the point where I was continually weeping - especially when visiting friends so they even started manically dusting and hoovering around me  Then we moved from the country, where all around us was fertilizer and spray - to the small town nearby and it all cleared miraculously. So I do know how you are feeling at least and how miserable it is although it seems mine was an allergic response.

I had a blink test done by my opthamologist six moths ago and he told me I got a low score with dry eyes. But I can't say these dry eyes bother me nearly as much as the gushing stuff did a decade or so ago. It might be worth getting a blink test and other tests for Sjogrens Syndrome just in case? (sorry if you have already spoken of this condition but it's rather late for me). Dry eyes can over water too though I believe? Mat x

    Hi Mat
Yes I believe {although it is a contradiction in terms  } That dry eyes can water.
I will ask for a blink test and a check for anything else to add to my list of ailments.
I was at the pain clinic yesterday and he said to ask for a second opinion {I know it's not his territory but thought I might get some advice} He also said make sure its not a 2nd opinion at the same hospital....they will just look at the notes that have already been written up and go from there. Ask the GP to refer me to a different hospital and start with a clean slate so to speak...I'm going to try that......I'm going over to Northern Ireland to see my mam {nearly 92} early on Sun.....today I was at a managing chronic pain session, the day before I was at the pain clinic as a patient then to the other side of the country to do a talk for Arthritis Care...Tomorrow.....I have got a committee meeting.....10 until about 4pm Arthritis Care.....so it will have to be after I get back that I get in touch with the GP....but I will.
    Thanks for your help
    Love

Wow you are a busy woman - well done you! I will look out for your update on this and hope that visiting your mum in N. Ireland goes well. Arthritis Care are holding self management workshops up here next month and I may enrol although I'm quite hectic just now too with visiting sister, middle son home from uni and my new role as an NRAS Scottish Ambassador which I'm finding really interesting. Its all go for both of us eh? - but I really hope those eyes give you some respite very soon. X

    Hi Mat
That must be a busy job NRAS ambassador well done you.
If you can manage the time.....try and get to the course...its well worth it and if your end of the world is anything like mine funding is very scarce so we don't get that many courses done now.

    Hi
I found them very helpful.......apart from the course itself you get lots of tips from others. Even the girl that does ours {my boss she calls herself  } learns new things each time.

One time she was having problems wringing out a dishcloth because her hands were so sore....one of the people on the course said that's easy.
Just take it out of the water, fold it up, drape it over the tap, twist it round a bit and hey presto that's the water out of it
She tried it and it worked.....so even she learns things from new people on the course.

    Good Luck
