My work's sickness policy - advise please

Hi Everyone,

I struggled into work this morning, after a very bad weekend of severe fatigue (I have RA), I almost didn't go into work this morning as I am feeling really horrible. However the last time I was off sick (back in August) I was giving a warning that my bonus (we get an annual bonus) and sick pay would be reduced if I am off sick again.

My company policy doesn't account for how many days you have off sick, but how many spells (in a year), I have had 5 spells of sickness this year, 3 related to my RA.

I did make a visit to my Occupational Health Advisor in March and they advised that extra sickness should be allowed giving my medical conditions, however I do know a couple of girls who have similar medical conditions to mine and have already had a warning for their sickness.

My manager is one of those people who is very much process driven and doesn't really care about the people side of things.

So my question is do we have any support out there for sickness and our medical condition?
I was thinking about going to the doctor and getting signed off but I don't think that will make a difference.
I am actually making myself worse because I am worried about going off sick!

as your occupational health said you should have allowences due to your disability. I don't know the full legal side but I would follow it up with citizens advice or the the help line on here maybe? Your boss needs to be reminded of the disability discrimination act, or whatever it is called now. My oc health set up a working space review to look at seating etc, ring fenced medical appointments during work hours and agreed that additional sick periods were to be expected and therefor not questioned.

hope this helps some, I would look into the official side of things as I can't remember the details but you arw being treated unfairly. As much as I hate usin the word disabled sometimes it gets a lot done!
