Buying footware

Hi,

I sometimes have problems trying to find shoes or boots to wear. I can't wear flat shoes as I can't walk comfortably with my right foot being flat on the ground so tend to have to try and find shoes that have a slight wedge. They can't be too high either or I'd struggle lifting my foot up!

Does anyone else have similar problems and where do you shop for foot ware?

Thanks

It's a very individual thing, as we all are. I stick to Crocs for indoor-all-year-round use and outdoors in the summer (lovely shock-absorbing things they are) and Hotter or Jospeh Siebel for the rest of the year. I have custom-made orthotics now and find that they work best in desert boots which I buy from Cotton Traders. DD

Hi, thanks for your reply, I never actually thought about getting custom made shoes before, maybe something to look into.

Oh no, the shoes aren't custom made - I cannot afford that! I meant my orthotic insoles - I am sorry I didn't make it clear. I was referred to that department by my rheumatologist and I have two pairs, total cost £360 but 'free' on the NHS. I wonder if this kind of thing could help you? DD

Hi Jennifer, I'm always having problems finding shoes that are comfortable, fit well and fairly trendy!! I find Rocket Dog and Sketchers are the most comfortable. They have good give in them so stretch when feet swell. They can be fairly pricey but find the wear I get out of them covers the cost. I also have a pair of croc's they are very comfy! Hope you find a pair of shoes that work for you, I understand the frustration it can cause!

I'm struggling to find shoes to fit. I have an appointment coming up on 2nd December at orthotics but in the mean time I need new shoes for work and some for every day. By the time I get to a shop my feet are swollen and don't fit in the shoe. I also have very painful feet when I walk so am looking for something cushioned. Being a staff nurse I'm not sure if I would get a way with crocs ? I used to wear sketchers and they are really comfy but my fat foot don't fit in them now !

Once I read your post again I realised it wasn't custom made shoes! Just didn't read post properly.

I might asked to be referred for orthotics the next time I am at the docs. I had them when I was in my early teens but being a teenager I sometimes couldn't get the shoes/trainers I wanted because of then which then lead to me not wearing them as much as I should. Own fault there I know!

Thanks for the advice, I'll have a look into Sketchers. I had a pair of Rocket Dog boots last year but they were quite heavy and ended up not wearing as much as I wanted.

I have actually bought the same pair of boots 4 times as they are comfortable but I would like a bit of variation! I hope the link below works.

Hi, look at the link on the other post I've just made, these boots are comfy and roomy, sometimes have a bit if a struggle getting them on tho! Don't think they'd suit for working tho. If need more cushioning then getting extra insoles might help, I do that sometimes.

Hi I too was referred to get insoles through the nhs I was sent to Biomechanics and podiatry so I also got some exercises to do to strengthen my weak ankles.
They suggested ECCO footware, I am lucky to have a store near me.
The referral took a while though so I would get it moving.

Deb123- I think I have seen lots of nurses in Crocs-white or pink ones though!

Is it just me or do doc martins look ideal if only for the laces? I see other people wearing them an can imagine how supported my foot and ankle would be but then my hands hurt just thinking about dealing with all those laces

I've not heard of hitter or Ecco so will look them up too!

I used to love wearing Merrell trainers, by far my fave, but now they are just too flat :-(

    hi
im on a bit of a limited budget(who isnt) and find that footglove shoes from m and s are better than some.I buy a size larger and sometimes 'wide fit'too. i need a wedge too as i find my foot is better supported with a wedge rather than a heel.I tend to find a pair and wear it non-stop.A pair usually lasts about 18 months and costs@ £40 but they have 20% off deals sometimes!

I forgot Ecco - they are a Danish firm, the childhood equivalent in Denmark of Clarks over here. They too do good shoes. Hotter are a UK firm and their shoes and boots are good quality, they have deeper toe-boxes plus a good range of width fittings. Cosyfeet are OK too albeit a little staid. DD

I see a very experienced, well known in the industry foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon who swears by running trainers. I got properly fitted in a running shoe shop and I would happen to agree with him on that. Nothing like a decent pair of trainers!

The other brands I've got on with are; Merrell (do decent boots) and Kickers (which are apparently back in fashion as well as being very well made shoes!).

I'm sure some of my friends have had trainers fitted especially for them from a place called runners needs. They do say they are fantastic as they actually do a lot of marathons etc.

Sometimes I get a comfy shoe from good old Clarke's the shop shop. if you have a Brantano shoe shop near you thats good for a browse too. I need shoes that are quite flat , but I've seen some comfy nice"ish" ones with a chunky wedge heel that look reasonably fashionable and not something a granny would choose ! :) I'm on the elusive hunt for a comfy pair of flat boots that are reasonably fashionable ( don't think it exists ) ....

For boots try Viva la d@va or Maris@ta . Both do wider fit and are feminine looking .
